:: Padawan Drahcir Arcos ::
:: Jedi Temple Training Grounds ::

Drahcir could feel his face tensed up, an unintentional glare that he quickly suppressed. The female Jedi's tactics and abilities with the force were impressive, but showy, something he often felt inappropriate. He quickly collected himself as he realized Master Epecegu had ended the match quite conclusively. Straightening himself out, patting his side where his lightsaber hung, he waited for the Master to address the students.

::Nalroni Initiate, Willax Thylac::
::Outside of Jedi Temple Tython::

Willax stood at the edge of the crowd and observed the Human Knight and the Twi’lek Master duelling. While he followed their actions through the force his gaze was drawn to his fellow students, all of them that he could see were padwans, some of them like the thin brown haired Human Das he had spoken to around the temple. For the most part the group typified the current situation within the order where older children had been brought in as initiates or even padawans to help bolster the ranks so depleted by the war and of course the sacking of Coruscant. There was no-one that Willax could see that he recognised from Coruscant before the sacking. Most of the initiates, including those from the clan that Willax had trained with from an infant were now dead or somewhere out in the Galaxy with their masters.

Willax returned his attention to the duel, he had seen many similar back on Coruscant when he was younger. Ninety nine times out of one hundred you would expect a weapons master to win unless they were up against a sage master or someone with a particularly specialised skill. For all of that the young Jedi Consular was giving a good account of herself. Willax had never seen the trick with the quick sand before and contemplated what he would have done to extricate himself in that situation.

He followed the dust cloud and the force wave and finally the stasis field that ended the duel, when he was younger he had tried to focus his own training on his lightsaber duelling and almost instinctively had been prepared to focus on that again, with the hope of becoming a Jedi Gaurdian someday, but perhaps it was significant that even the weapons master had finished the duel with the use of the force rather than use of his sabres. In his current state of mind Willax was prepared to follow the force where it led.

He waited calmly to see what lesson the master had to impart.

:: Consular Shayla Jaste ::
:: Training Grounds, Temple ::

Shayla was caught by surprise by the use of Stasis. Losing control of the objects, the whirlwind collapsed to the ground along with any remaining dirt held in the air, and the remaining dust cloud began to settle. She barely felt the tip of the lightsaber tap her chest as she was stuck in the near catatonic state. When she was released she shook her head, feeling a little disorientated.

“Cheat” was all she managed to get out as she recovered, a small grin on her face.

Shayla wasn’t the least bit surprised that he had bested her yet again, and rubbed at the slight stinging on her chest. She would have to work on being able to resist Force effects. She returned the bow, letting go of her now deactivated lightsaber. It hovered in the air for a moment before returning to her belt at her command. Shayla rolled her eyes as Ikis tried to brush more dirt from his clothing.

“Oh quit worrying about your robes Ikis” she said with a smile.

A look of concentration crossed her face for a moment and she made a circling motion with her finger. Dirt and dust rose up from Ikis, then blew aside as if by a wind to settle back to the ground. She straightened out her own robes and smiled at the students, giving them a little bow of her head in greeting and coming up to stand next to the much taller Twi’lek. As he opened his mouth to speak she winked at the closest student, a Nalroni. The usually fairly proper Jedi had a small fun loving streak, and she had decided that a little payback was required in the form of a practical joke. That look of concentration flashed across her face briefly and Ikis slowly began to rise off the ground, as if gravity was no longer affecting him like normal. Shayla was straight faced with a calm expression and her hands clasped behind her back when Ikis turned his head to look at her with a raised eye ridge, though in reality it took a great deal of concentration for her to lift another sentient off the ground.

:: Jedi Master Ikis Epecegu ::
:: Jedi Temple Training Grounds ::

~Ikis smiled a bit at Shayla's "cheat" comment and shrugged.  When she teased him about his robes he replied quietly.~

"It's not the dirt on the outside I'm worried about.  It's all the dirt on the inside of them that is unpleasant.  I was rather clean earlier."

~Before he could speak to the group he felt all the dirt on the inside and outside of his robe rise up and float away.  He nodded at Shayla as she stepped up next to him, and then turned his head back to the group, but once again before he could speak he felt an odd sensation.  Looking down he saw he was rising up into the air.  He turned to Shayla with a raised eye ridge, clearing his throat at her.~

"Shayla, I do believe I am quite tall enough for the whole group to see me without you raising me up further."

~He could tell she was trying greatly not to smile too hard and finally he settled back to the ground.  Before she could do anything further he spoke to the group.~

"Good morning students.  I'm glad that your Masters have all allowed you to come train with us this morning.  For those of you that haven't met us before, I am Master Ikis Epecegu, and this wily Force user here is Jedi Knight Shayla Jaste."

~Ikis smirked at Shayla before looking back to those in front of them.~

"Though most of you have your individual training you do with your Masters, they and I felt it good that while here you get some time to practice in a group with myself as one of the Order's saber masters.  Facing different opponents is one of the better ways to increase your skill with a lightsaber and keep you from getting into a rut with the same training routines.  I know you all have varying degrees of skill with a lightsaber and the Force, so I am going to try and match you appropriately."

~He gazed over the group, stroking his chin and trying to recall all of their abilities and skill levels.  He pointed at Vellik and Willax, motioning them forward.  When they were in front of them he spoke a little quieter.~

"Padawan Eris I know you haven't been with the Jedi as long as the others and Initiate Thylac I know you were with the Jedi Service Corps and thusly didn't have a lot of opportunities to work with a lightsaber, so you two will be a pair."

~Looking at the others he then pointed to Cya and Das.~

"Padawans Rylo and Kol, you two will be a pair."

~His gaze fell to the last two.~

"Padawans Arcos and Varin, it seems you are the last pair."

~Ikis looked at all of them again.~

"Pair up and spread out from the other groups and start warming up.  Also, please make sure your sabers are adjusted down to minimum power.  I prefer a non-live exercise when I am training bigger groups.  If your saber does not have a power setting adjustment, please let me know and I will provide a training saber."

:: Padawan Drahcir Arcos ::
:: Jedi Temple Training Grounds ::

Having heard Master Epecegu call out the pairing, Drahcir glanced over at Padawan Varin. Drahcir had heard of and seen Varin in the past, both being some of the older Padawans in the group, but he had never dueled with him before. From what little he knew Padawan Varin was equally skilled in Form II, which had Drahcir wondering how this would go. Thinking over possible strategies, Drahcir placed a hand on his training shoto. He was unskilled in dual saber usage, but perhaps the unexpected ignition of it mid-duel could give him a slight, momentary edge. In a real fight it'd be too risky, but this training environment gave him the perfect opportunity to get creative.

Moving off to the side and waiting for Varin to approach, Drahcir sized up his soon to be sparring partner - giving him a slight smile. They appeared to be equal in size, though Varin looked a bit more built. Despite Varin's calm demeanor, Drahcir could tell this would be a fun duel that would require him to stay on his toes.

Having found a suitable location, Drahcir began to stretch, adjust his sabers to minimum power, and ready himself for a duel.

:: Padawan Vellik Eris ::
:: Training Grounds, Jedi Temple ::

Vellik's attention began to wander away from the duel as more padawans began to arrive.  He was familiar with most of them already having been at the temple around a year and half.  Only Kol was younger then him, if only by a few months, and as usual he was the smallest.  It was nothing knew, he had always been small for his age which made him the subject of bullying before he came to the Jedi.

He turned back to watch the duel between the Master and the Knight.  It seemed quite a mis-match with the Twi-Lek being over a foot taller then the little human woman, but he knew as well as anybody not to discount someone because of their size.  As the duel went on he found himself inwardly cheering for his fellow Human.  The saber master's attack was relentless but the woman held her own against him.  The match finally ended with the Jedi Master on top, literally.  Vellik failed to suppress a laugh as the Consular further showed her telekinetic mastery by levitating the man in the air.

He regained his composure and stepped forward along with Willax at the command of Master Epecegu.  "Thank you, Master."  Vellik acknowledged with a smile.  He went over to an empty area of the training ground and waited for Willax to join him.  He didn't know much about the Nalroni, except that he was without a master, but he seemed like a friendly sort and Vellik was always up for making a new friend.

::Padawan Alecs Varin::
::Temple Training Field::

Alecs couldn't help but smile as the weapons master was lifted into the air by the consular. She clearly wanted to get back at him for 'cheating' and it was a very entertaining way of doing so.
As soon as his name was called Alecs glanced over at his partner... He knew the name and his face but had never really met him before. Like him, Padawan Arcos was one of the older Padawans in the group so would have enough experience to not be taken lightly... Alecs grabbed his lightsaber and found the power limiter. He set it to be the level of a training saber and walked over to his partner, returning the smile and beginning warming up for the oncoming duel... "This'll be fun" he thought as he did so.

::Padawan Kol Thomon::
::Temple Dormitory Wing::

The shone brightly on the young man’s face as Kol rose from his bed with a yawn. The room was empty save for him, filled only with well-made empty beds. He dragged his hand along his short hair, rubbing the top of his head with another yawn as he walked out of the dorm into the open courtyard.

He stepped out into the beautiful day; the temple was teeming with excitement, scholars and swords masters walked about as young initiates ran about to their various classes. He could hear a chuckle from the windows above the door he just exited, looking up he saw a jedi. He was older than Kol, most likely a knight. His hands were full of food stuffs, he must have been carrying to a classroom when he saw Kol meander from the dorm room.

With a chuckle he called out to Kol in a raised voice, “I didn’t think Padawans could stay in bed for so long, my master never once allowed the sun to rise before I did!”

As the knight laughed to himself, perhaps remembering moments of his youth, a small shock of the force swirled around the doorway. The sudden shake pushed the crate of food out of his hands allowing to fall and crack open on the top of the doorway. Fruit flew in all directions and with a quick motion Kol reached out and gently caught one, taking a bit and walking toward the direction of the force wave; the Knight hanging on the window ledge, defeated.

As Kol entered the Temple training grounds he realized whoever created the spectacle of telekinetic power was done now. All that stood there now were a line of padawans facing two Jedi; one he was not familiar with, a female human. The other was a tall Twi’lek, Kol knew who he was a Jedi Master by the name of Epecegu. He was the man Kol was told to see today for group training, and the group seemed to have been there for a bit, already breaking up into groups of two.

He approached as he finished off the last of his breakfast, and with one last yawn he stepped up close enough to watch what they were doing, but still a few paces behind the others not wanting to stand out.

:Padawan Pau Korbath:
::Temple Dormitory Wing::

As the sun let it's rays into the room, Pau slowly opened his eyes.  Remembering how last night the other Padawans talked about how excited they were about the training grounds, he washed his face, got dressed, and put his hearing enhancer on.  After a brief five minute meditation, he went to the cafeteria for breakfast, where he had a piece of bread and a couple fruits.

When he got to the training grounds, he saw the other Padawans were already split into two groups, and a sparring match was underway, overseen by two Masters that he recognized but couldn't remember their names.  Unsure of what group he was supposed to be in, he walked over to the side to watch.

::Nalroni Initiate, Willax Thylac::
::Outside of Jedi Temple Tython::

The duel between the Twi’lek and the human had concluded, but the knight, demonstrating considerable skill and an evident fun-loving streak lifted Master Epecegu off the ground as he began to address the group. She had winked at Willax as she had done it and he had returned the gesture with a smile, he enjoyed training in a light-hearted fashion when the opportunity arose.  For his part Master Epecegu showed considerable tolerance, it was evident that he and the Human female had a good if somewhat informal working relationship.

Willax was summoned to partner with Vellick, one of the youngest and smallest of the several Human male Padawans present.  The Nalroni had seen the sandy haired youth around the temple in his various comings and goings between Agricorps missions he and the Ithorian Knight Ixxth had been undertaking. But as yet he had not spoken to Vellick and knew little about him.
Following the young human to an empty space on the training ground he smiled  and bowed to his opponent.

“Good morning Padawan, do you mind if I take this opportunity to practice my Soresu moves? The knight that I was working with in the Agricorps has encouraged me to practice them as they come in useful particularly with our work on Taris.”

Vellick gave a shy smile and nodded in reply.

Willax took out his lightsaber and switched it to its lowest setting. He ignited the blade that the Ithorian had crafted for him, as usual, he had his mind filled for a fraction of a second, with the impression of a lush jungle clearing with a creek winding through it. The imprint Ixxith had left upon the weapon.

The Nalroni assumed the classic Soresu opening stance with his lightsaber held high in one hand and the blade angled steeply downwards across his body. As he did it he felt a brief pang of hunger and tiredness run through him, but he let the force fill these voids. In doing so he felt an enhanced connection to his surroundings and heightened senses. It was as if he was in a bubble of control riding the currents of the force where they would take him.

:: Padawan Das Kol ::
:: Jedi Temple Training Grounds ::

Das looked around at the other students, like him, in awe of the show they just witnessed. There were also one of two which didn't seem too impressed..Das was intrigued to hear what the Masters had to say about what he had just seen, especially the levitation of the Master, however as the moment passed Master Epecegu smiled at the Jedi knight and started allocating pairs for training.

Das was paired with Cya, and he walked over to her.

Das had seen Cya around on Kamparas, but  had only spoken in passing. Das found it difficult to converse with the other students. It was one of the reasons his Master brought him here, to built his confidence, instead of spending every moment in the archives. He wasn't doing very well so far..

'Today will be different' he thought.

"Good morning Cya.." He said as he closed his eyes and nodded. "What have you been studying?"

: Cerean Padawan Cya-pau-rylo::
::Jedi Temple Training Grounds::

Cya watched the duel come to it's inevitable (to her at least) conclusion. It had appeared that, under duel conditions, the Force techniques used by the female Jedi were only momentary distractions, offering little advantage. But, she could see how, in a real fight, the rocks would cut or break bones, the sand blind, etc.... offering distinct advantages to their use.... She still shied away from the idea of injuring or killing another, but was starting to understand that sometimes you had no choice.... and it hurt her to think that way...

Master Ikis spoke to the gathered students for a moment, then paired them off. She was paired with Das, whom she remembered seeing at the training camp, mostly done in the Archives while she was researching medical procedures. He was already walking over towards her so she arose and dusted herself off.....

"Good morning Cya.." Das said as he closed his eyes and nodded. "What have you been studying?"

She bowed slightly in greeting. "Mostly healing techniques and literature. Some Force techniques and combat. Seems to be mostly standard stuff so far. Today is the first big change in the routine in a while..."

She motioned towards an open area nearby and the two started to walk over together. She removed the light cloak she had thrown on in case it was chilly and began to loosen up her shoulders. She maintained her link to her crystal as she did so....

"And what about you?"

:: Jedi Master Ikis Epecegu ::
:: Jedi Temple Training Grounds ::

~After Ikis had finished assigning the groups out he watched as they moved to separate spots and began to loosen up and get ready for sparring matches.  He checked his chrono, noting that it was just about time to begin, though he was still two Padawans short from what he should have.  Looking up he saw two more approach the training area and heading towards his group.  He strode over to the side of the ring, seeing they were the last two supposed to be in his group.~

"Ah, Padawans Thomon and Korbath.  Good, you are just in time."

~He gestured to himself and Shayla as he spoke.~

"I'm Master Ikis Epecegu and this is Jedi Knight Shayla Jaste.  We'll be your instructors today.  Seems you two will be partners in our first exercise.  Please find a spot away from the others and start warming up.  Also, please be sure to adjust your lightsabers down to minimum power before starting.  If yours doesn't have an adjustment to do so, I can provide you with a training one."

~Ikis turned back to the others and surveyed them warming up and getting ready as the last two got into position.  He gauged each one, considering their saber skills as best he could recall.~

"Alright then.  Once you are all limbered up and have adjusted your lightsabers or gotten a training one, you will start up as follows.  Vellik, Cya, Drahcir, and Kol; you four are going to start on offense in the matches.  Start in easy, get a feel for your opponent's defense before you try and strike in too much.  Aggressiveness can cause you to over extend yourselves.  Willax, Das, Alecs, and Pau; you four are going to start on the defensive.  Watch your opponent's moves, look for how they strike at you.  While I don't want you going on the offensive immediately, if your attacker over extends themselves, take advantage and strike back.  Score a hit on them if you can.  We'll run this way for a bit and then we'll switch positions.  If your sparring partner takes any hits and calls for a break, you back off, however no resuming with a surprise attack."

~He looked around, making sure everyone was following along.~

"Once we make it through both sides having a go at both positions, we'll take a little break and I'll do a little instructing based on what I've observed.  Then you all will switch partners and we'll do it all over again.  The object is to learn more about fighting different opponents and to learn your and their weaknesses and what to do about them.  Just so you know, I plan on running you for most of the day, so be ready for some stings from these blades.  Knight Jaste here does have some ability with healing if you take a bad hit, so you don't have to worry about being taken care of.  Any questions?"

~His head swiveled left and right, checking to see if there were indeed questions.~

"Thank you, Master." replied Pau, bowing as he turned to face Kol.  He removed his cloak and worked his shoulders a bit.  "Hello." he said to the other Padawan.  He took his lightsaber from his belt, and set it to it's lowest setting.

Closing his eyes, he centered himself in the Force, focusing only on himself, and his opponent.  He then opened his eyes, and ignited his lightsaber, performing a Form II salute, then assuming a Form III ready stance.  Holding his green blade high, he waited for Kol to make the first move.

Alecs heard the masters instructions and looked over at Drachir who was getting into a battle stance. Alecs bent his knees and activated his lghtsaber. The teal blade shone out as he performed a traditional flourish and brought his lightsaber down into a Form II defensive opening stance. His eyes also shone with a teal aura as he activated his force sight and prepared for Drachir to approach. "Defence, huh I can do that... Sure" he thought to himself
