::Padawan Alecs Varin::
::Kalikori Village::

Alecs kept a vigilant eye on the treeline as Tensson and Prell'a crept beyond the barricade to scavenge what they could from the fallen Flesh Raiders. The exercise had so far reaped a meager offering but a few extra blaster cartridges would help their defenses later on. Alecs felt the young Nalroni's presence fade from his sight and he felt a surge of anger at the Flesh Raiders.

Alecs stopped and centered himself, he couldn't afford to let his emotions cloud his vision, both in a mental and physical sense as he felt the ambient energy change hue from an electric blue to a deep vermilion, Alecs was sure that the source of dark energy that Master Epecegu was facing had played a part in the tipping in the scales of his Force Sight but didn't know if the ambient dark energy was strong enough. Once he got his sight under control he noticed that he had overlooked a group of Flesh Raiders that had ventured beyond the treeline and had began to charge the Twi-leks who were firing snap shots as they retreated back to the barricade.

Alecs took a quick look over at Brinnisk who had already opened fire on the oncoming group and Alecs saw that the Raiders had caught the other's in a stranglehold and he jumped over the baracade. Enhancing his speed with the Force, Alecs took off towards the battle. he remembered one of Master Lumiya's teachings, "In a fight, things more often then not will change so be prepared to improvise." as he ignited his lightsaber and crashed into the nearest Flesh Raider with all of the momentum he had built up, knocking it to the ground stunned, as he made a heavy overhead slash at another, slicing through it's unarmored torso as he made a quick flourish and turned to face the next.

The Twi-leks had draw vibroknives and were fighting with their own Raiders, taking out several as they moved the fight closer to the barricade, giving Brinnisk an easier shot.

::Nalroni Initiate, Willax Thylac::
::Kalikori Village, Tython::

As usual, when Willax used force cloak there was the fraction of a second where everything went black as the light bent around him. When it had totally encircled him once again, he gained a view of his surroundings although now they were distorted rather like looking through thick liquid. The Fleshraider seeing its target disappear before its eyes stayed its blow with the rifle butt and instead lashed out into the the space Willax had been with its hands. By now however Willax was several paces away, he had dropped to one knee as soon as he had activated force cloak and rolled away from the Fleshraiders, before standing up to get his bearings.

 When Willax had first come to Tython he had been summoned to appear before the Jedi Council to explain his force cloak ability, it was an unusual skill, achieved in a number of varying ways and one that beings tended to be born with which made it very difficult to teach. It was soon ascertained that Willaxs skill was of this nature also and he had not found a new method that could passed on to others. The council had directed Willax to a couple of texts written by notable users  of force cloak so that he may be able to enhance his skill.

The texts offered some quitef useful information, in particular was a comment, that if a being was able to narrow their focus sufficiently they would be able to reduce their physical presence within the force making it easier to cloak themselves and also making the process less exhausting. Willax had not been able to reduce his physical presence perceptibly but by narrowing his focus he had been able to extend the amount of time he was able to cloak himself by several minutes.

Looking around the distorted turmoil of the battle-field, Willax quickly located Jedi Jaste up ahead and began to move towards her. He had not taken more than a few steps however when a maddened Fleshraider barged past him. It looked like the one that had picked him up and shaken him earlier except something was terribly wrong with it. The Fleshraider tore into a group of other Fleshraiders who were concentrated on the edge of Jedi Jastes vortex, it flailed at them with a sword and its fists, striking down two of them in its rage. The other Fleshraiders then turned on the rogue dealing it several harsh wounds, still it fought even as it lay on the ground writhing.

Willax lost sight of the Fleshraider amongst the legs of those that surrounded it. Then he noticed Vellick gamely defending himself against three Fleshraiders quite close by. Willax immediately dropped his force cloak and with a single leap was alongside Vellick with his saber drawn, as he landed he felt a burst of pain from the wound on his back. The thrust weapon had been deflected by his shoulder blade but he had a deep cut that ran for about 20cm across his back, his upper tunic had also been torn by the weapon and also the raider that had grabbed him and it hung about his waist in blood stained tatters. Finally he had a deep cut across the back of his left wrist that he was not even sure how he had got.

The cut on his wrist hurt particularly and he shook his hand in pain. The three Fleshraiders had stepped back for a moment, surprised by the unexpected reinforcement of their enemy. Vellick wore and equally surprised look but a troubled one also.

“I certainly wish I had those bracers now” said Willax still shaking his hand to try rid himself of the pain.

:: Jedi Master Ikis Epecegu ::
:: Forest near Kalikori Village ::

~With the two Flesh Raiders separated and unable to coordinate, Ikis was easily able to find which was the weaker fighter.  The dark power that radiated off of them was only so effective in bolstering their abilities.  After working them into a position he wanted, Ikis used a Blast to knock the stronger one away and then made his move on the weaker one.  He locked up his opponent's saber blade and then twisted it sideways out of position.  Then he disengaged with one blade and slid it down, severing both of the Flesh Raider's forearms and causing the hands to release the weapon and it to deactivate as they all fell to the ground.  Ikis then moved away from the creature.  The Flesh Raider roared loudly in rage, but seemed unfazed in its determination, charging him without hesitation rather than backing down.  Almost without thought it impaled itself on both of Ikis' blades in a last attempt to attack him, heaving itself almost up to the hilts.  After a couple moments of struggle though, the brain and the body finally realized the mortal wound and slumped lifeless to the ground.  Not but a few moments later the bigger and stronger Flesh Raider came charging back over and saw what had befallen it's compatriot.  Surprising to Ikis, it let out a howl filled with rage and sorrow.  It was so loud it hurt Ikis' ears and he was pretty sure the other Jedi and Flesh Raiders probably could hear it.  He took a defensive position before the large Flesh Raider, hoping that after striking one of the two down that the others that were attacking the village would start to lose coordination and some would begin to scatter.~

"I tried to warn you...   I didn't want to do that."

~The Flesh Raider snarled at him and extended its hand and the lightsaber on the ground flew up into it.  The move surprised Ikis a little, but he wasn't unprepared.  He readied himself for another onslaught as the Flesh Raider then charged him.  Ikis met the charge and defended himself against the blows.  They were ferocious, but there wasn't as much power behind them as before since the creature was no longer using a two handed stance.  He stayed on the defensive for a bit, analyzing the Flesh Raider's style, or mostly lack thereof.  Ikis wanted to be a little cautious before he struck back.  He didn't know the full capabilities of these creatures.~

:: Consular Knight Shayla Jaste ::
:: near Kalikori Village ::

The Raider Shayla encountered next hadn’t yet recovered. Her blade sliced through the barrel of its pistol then it went flying backwards as the Jedi hit it with a strong Force Push. A tingling warning made her side step and spin around, her blade raising to defend against a downwards strike from a particularly large Flesh Raider wielding a padawan training blade towering over her. The strength of his attack would have sent her to her knees had she not used the Force to assist her. She immediately went on the offensive, again aiming to disarm the creature. This one managed to block her first strike then her second grazed it, a slice running up its forearm. It roared at her, a noise that was cut off as Shayla swirled out of the way to let a large rock she had summoned from the vortex to smash into its head knocking it unconscious.

Realising her mind and body were beginning to tire she immersed herself in the Force, trusting in it completely to guide her. She opened herself to the swirling patterns of the Force around her, their dancing paths that her floating objects raced along. The young woman had discovered a few years beforehand that they had a calming effect on her, allowing her to concentrate more fully on whatever it was she tried to do. Usually she used the vortex by having a small one swirling around her legs not a large storm however. It took more effort to hold but it was an ability she had trained in, and opening herself up to it like this allowed it all to flow much easier. Rocks flew out of the spinning mass of debris to strike at Flesh Raiders, and any foolish enough to get close to the edge of it trying to break through to the village found a wall of rock striking at them. Any who retreated back towards the treeline found the rocks suddenly open up and allow them through, and one young looking Raider had dropped his rifle and ran, as the attention of their Dark masters was diverted and some of their hold released.

Shayla felt a spike of pain coming from another and reached out, trying to sense who and where it was. She saw the Nalroni Initiate drop but his life force was still there, such that she could manage to sense it with her Healing. He was outside her vortex and she couldn’t reach him, not with a large grey Raider bearing down on her and another having just opened fire. Her blade spun in an icy blue blaze to deflect the bolts, returning them to the one who shot at her. One took him in the arm then the second in the chest, the remaining scattering. She barely moved in time as the large grey one lashed out with his bare hands. It was a momentary dilemma for her, he had no weapon for her to remove. With a dash of speed she struck at his side and leg, not enough to cut deep but enough to injure. He dropped to one knee clutching his side, his attention now off her. She still had plenty enough to worry about.

She sensed her vortex open up to let an ally through not once but twice and heard the hail of blasterfire as the Twi’lek defenders took advantage of the distraction she had created for them. Suddenly Shayla was washed over by anger and hatred and a presence in the Dark side, a very close presence. She spun on the spot to see what had happened. The youngest Padawan, Vellik, had been the ally charging through and the emotions were centred on him. She couldn’t see exactly what was going on but she called out in concern.

“Padawan!”

It was hard not to respond to his emotions and those of pain fear and anger all around by using her own to give her power. She knew that if the two youngsters were fighting here, the Flesh Raiders would be targeting them. She sent a wave of the Force out, enough to flatten those immediately around her and used it to leap clear of them. She came down right alongside the two young men as three Raiders rushed them, using three concentrated fields to physically halt the swings of the swords towards them. The sentient beasts seemed surprised when their weapons halted mid-air. One, a smaller pink fleshed one, almost lost his balance completely, the fact he was holding the weapon tightly the only thing that kept him upright. Another was growling furiously and trying to haul its weapon out of Shayla’s telekinetic grasp, and the third let go and charged Vellik empty handed, roaring. Vellik managed to side step out of the way, his blade grazing the Raider a moment before Shayla picked it up with the Force and threw it into another Flesh Raider barely metres away which had been fighting its frenzied former friend. Willax was in pain but she was too occupied to be able to help ease it, he would have to control his own pain for now. She could still feel the anger coming off Vellik and realised what had happened.

“Padawan control yourself!” she cried out to him, sending the three swords soaring upwards and away from the battlefield. The smallest one was jolted off his feet before letting go of the weapon and falling on its rump, the second Shayla barely managed to rip the blade from its grip. Snarling it pulled out a blaster instead. At that moment there was a hideous sorrowful howl coming from deeper in the forest, and the presence of the Dark side felt slightly diminished. It made the hairs on the back of Shayla’s neck stand up. Some of the Flesh Raiders seem to pause in their attacks, as if trying to decide whether to push on or run, but others seemed to only attack with renewed ferocity. The little pink Raider had taken off as fast as its legs could carry it towards the treeline in fear and it was not the only one Shayla saw retreat. The grey one with the blaster had the end of its fingers sliced off along with half of the blaster as Willax’s blade sliced through, and Shayla turned to face more Raiders attacking at them from inside the vortex. Rocks continued to whizz and fly out of the vortex both inwards and outwards aimed at the Raiders while blasterfire continued to pepper them from the village, and the Jedi, Padawan and Initiate formed a triangle facing outwards to defend against their attackers.

:: Padawan Vellik Eris ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

Vellik had managed to parry the first of the strikes from the Flesh Raiders blades when he saw someone leap through the air and land beside him.  The attacking Raiders back peddled in surprise at the new reinforcements and Vellik was equally stunned to see Willax standing beside.  He couldn't even reply as the Nalroni commented about needing bracers.  The padawan just stared at his friend, his mind reeling trying to figure out what had just happened, when he thought he heard a woman's voice calling to him.  The Flesh Raiders resumed their attack when suddenly the Jedi Knight landed beside the them.  The Raiders halted again struggling with their weapons which seemed to be stuck in mid-air.  One attacker gave up on freeing his weapon, letting it go and rushed at Vellik.  Still feeling the effects of his anger, he managed to snap out of his confusion to side-step the Raider's attack and take a hard swing at his attacker.  The Flesh Raider's arm was only grazed but a second later he was flung through the air and into one of his friends.

“Padawan control yourself!”

Vellik heard Jedi Jaste shout to him as the Flesh Raider's weapons went sailing up and away from their owners, followed by a terrifying howl from deeper in the forest that sent a shiver down his spine.  Shayla calling out to him and the howl from the Flesh Raider had finally brought Vellik back to his senses.  The dark presence was no longer as strong as it had been, but a sense of anger and sorrow now radiated from the forest.  The boy shuddered as he realized how similar it was to what he had felt when he saw Willax's bloody robe lying on the ground.  As Shayla dealt with the remainder of the three Raiders, the Padawan suddenly realized what he had just done.  It was the first time since that day on Coruscant he had given in to his anger, and again living beings had lost their lives because of it.
Unlike that time on his homeworld he did not have the luxury of time to think about what he had done.  Vellik took position next to Willax behind Shayla to defend against the next wave Flesh Raiders.

:: Jedi Master Ikis Epecegu ::
:: Forest near Kalikori Village ::

~Ikis was finding that the Flesh Raider was almost learning from him in it's moves.  He needed to go ahead and end the fight rather than drag it out any longer.  As he prepared to make his move, the Flesh raider must have anticipated something and instead struck out against him with a blast of dark energy.  It was raw and unfocused, just radiating outwards from the Flesh raider it was enough that Ikis wasn't able to counter it and it knocked him off balance.  Then the creature charged him, trying to knock him over.  It took Ikis to a knee and the Flesh Raider was applying enough power to keep him pushed down, unable to rise.  Deciding that now was the time to use it, he activated his shoto on the opposite end of his main saber.  The orange blade sprang to life and impaled the leg of the creature, causing it to roar loudly in pain.  It's leverage lost, Ikis twisted his saber and the blade flicked sideways, removing the beast's leg.  With no way to balance itself now, Ikis deactivated his shoto and toppled the creature onto its back.  Not able to defend itself well from the position, Ikis quickly disarmed the Flesh raider.  One saber being twisted out of its hand, the other hand was removed, along with the saber.~

"I'm sorry it has to be this way."

~He raised both sabers over his head, ready to strike.  The Flesh raider let out another terrible howl, this one just as loud and painful as the last.  Ikis then silenced the creature, driving both his sabers into its chest.  The howl died out as its chest was pierced by two blades.  After it fell silent though, there was a ripple of dark energy that threw Ikis back a few steps, like whatever had been driving the beast was now gone.  The Dark Side presence that had saturated the area was now starting to lift, though the two bodies still had a lingering stain of it.  Immediately Ikis deactivated one of his sabers and returned it to his belt.  He then turned about and called the two lightsabers from the ground to his hand, hanging both on spare utility hooks on his belt.  Once done he charged back towards the edge of the forest at breakneck speed.  He wasn't sure if the control these two had would be completely broken, so there might still be more fighting.~

:: Consular Knight Shayla Jaste ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

Shayla’s vortex had begun to lose some of its power. Even though utilising the patterns was as easy as breathing to her, on such a grand scale and while fighting it was draining her too quickly and she was now facing four Flesh Raiders, all who towered above the short woman. Ikis had told her multiple times to keep changing her tactics, keep the enemy guessing. With the numbers of Raiders reduced by the few who had run back to the forest and those that had been permanently halted in their fighting she did just that. The column suddenly collapsed in on itself, rock and debris raining down across the Raiders. Shayla left a telekinetic field around the two young Jedi so that any falling objects would stop before it hit them. At the same time she stepped up her attack, rushing the four before they could make another move.

One went tumbling away from a powerful Force Push as Shayla’s blade cut through the blaster of another. Another, who had recovered far quicker from the small Jedi’s sudden attack that she would have thought swung at her with a padawan training saber and she wasn’t quite quick enough. The blade caught her forearm with a glancing blow, shooting pain up it, but because it was only a training blade it didn’t cut in. With all the dark emotions and Dark energy swirling around, the pain caused anger to blossom in her mind and her grey eyes flashed dangerously. She ripped the saber from the creature’s hand as she sent an emotion filled blast into it. It was enough to send it flying metres away and it landed in a crumpled heap on the ground, alive but clutching at its chest, too injured to fight. She managed to rein in those emotions as she ducked, her lightsaber rising to deflect an incoming bolt.

With one blade in each hand she turned to face her next attacker. The woman had only very briefly trained with two blades, more as a novelty than anything and while she knew a little from watching others she didn’t have the skill to wield them that way in earnest. Instead she fell into a Shien guard stance, blocking the bolts coming from the Raider she’d sent tumbling with her lightsaber while using the training blade to build up and focus Force energy. Before she could release it there was a terribly howl of pain from the forest. That seemed to infuriate the incredibly large Raider bearing down on her even as the other was still shooting at her. She swung the training blade in a controlled arc in the direction of the blaster wielder, releasing the energy which slammed into him and knocked his weapon from his grip. Both blades came up to block the overhead slash of the huge Raider. She hadn’t been able to channel enough of the Force into her to strengthen her block and his overbearing strength sent her to one knee, lightsaber and training blade crackling against his training blade, trying to bolster her defence with telekinesis pushing back at him. It was almost too little too late, he had the advantage pushing all his great strength downwards and he was forcing her further to the ground. Her eyes widened in fear, unsure if she could best him.

Suddenly there was another howl of pain and a ripple in the Force that even Shayla felt, the feeling of the Dark side dissipating completely. The creature’s attack lessened ever so slightly at that. At the same time Vellik struck at the huge Flesh Raider’s leg. His blades cut deep and the Raider howled in pain. The distraction and the resulting reduction in force on her double bladed block was enough for Shayla to use the Force to push his training blade away with hers, her lightsaber coming down before the blue blade struck upwards into its chest. The Jedi used a small burst of the Force to push the Flesh Raider away from her as it fell dead to the ground and she got back to her feet.

“Thank you!” she said gratefully as they prepared to face what might come next. Everything seemed to happen so quickly then. The sound of speeder bikes at full throttle could be heard over the noise of the battle, and seconds later three arcs of bright light came leaping through the air towards them. A female Twi’lek Jedi wielding a green lightsaber and a male Nautolian Jedi Master dual wielding two yellow blades landed amongst the remaining Flesh Raiders. Seconds after that another two Jedi jumped into the fray, one a female human, the other a powerfully built male Zabrak, both with blue lightsabers. Those two immediately came to the aid of Shayla, Vellik and Willax and Shayla gratefully fell back. She was exhausted after expending so much energy but the fight wasn’t over yet, the woman falling into a position of support instead. Both young Jedi took their cue from her and also fell back, letting the fresh Jedi take over the main fight. Faced by the suddenly increased number of Jedi and with their Dark influence gone the Raiders now had no chance. Some were cut down where they stood, the rest turning and running in fear for the forest. A bright flash of yellow from this side of the treeline showed Ikis has returned to the battlefield. Shayla sent a barrage of debris flying after the fleeing Raiders, keeping them from wanting to turn back and attack again.

The remaining fight was over very quickly. Shayla stood weak and exhausted, saber in each hand, as she tried to use the Force to recover. All around them was the evidence of the battle. Debris and rocks were stewn everywhere around them, as were the bodies and body parts of Flesh Raiders, weapons still clutched in severed limps or lain forgotten. Blackened marks were all over the ground from the blaster bolts flying from both sides and there were multiple small craters from the Flesh Raider’s cobbled together cannon. Shayla’s icy blue blade shut off with a hss snap, the gravity of what happened suddenly weighing down heavily on her. So much pain and suffering, so much death, and she had been responsible for her fair share of it. She hadn’t taken many lives before and the young Jedi disliked violence, yet here she was, having to face it and its horrific consequences. She didn’t even have anywhere to avert her eyes. The tip of the training bladed lowered until it touched the ground and she sighed sadly at what had just passed.

::Nalroni Initiate, Willax Thylac::
::Kalikori Village, Tython::

Willax held his left arm tight against his body and as he drew on the force to regain his composure and control his pain. Vellick stood next to him but he had not responded to the Nalronis’ joke he seemed confused and there were darker emotions that had emanated from him also. Whatever the problem had been Jedi Jaste had contained it even if it was not fully solved.

Jedi Jaste stood behind Willax to his right with her rocks circling the three of them. Due to his efforts to control his own pain Willaxs sense of those around him was diminished but he could tell that the Human Jedi was beginning to tire. He glanced over his shoulder towards her and as he did so the pain in his back flared and he momentarily had feelings of dizziness. Moving his back muscles slowly he realised that the wound there was bleeding freely and the fur on his lower  back was slick with blood. Willax had next to no skill at healing but he quickly realised he needed to do something or else he would pass out through loss of blood.

Using the force to guide him and as much focus as he could muster, Willax took a deep breath and entered the moving meditation state that he had used while they had been doing the training run. Almost instantly the force started to give him energy and reduce his pain, using this energy and the fact that the circling rocks were keeping the Fleshraiders to his front at bay. Willax narrowed his focus, he could not heal the wound in his back, but as his heartbeat slowed he was able to manipulate the platelets in his blood to clot around the wound and in the space of a few short breaths the bleeding started to reduce.

Suddenly however his meditation was broken as he had to deflect a blaster bolt aimed at him. A small group of Fleshraiders seeing that he was wounded took the opportunity to charge. While at the same time renewed blaster fire targeted Vellick and Jedi Jaste behind him.  Four Fleshraiders ran towards Willax, one was stopped almost strait away as a rock the size hover droid crashed into its head. Willax could see that in a few footsteps his assailants would be upon him so drawing on his final reserves of energy he reached forward with his wounded left hand and dragged at the closest fleshraider with one of the strongest force pulls he has ever managed. At the same time he lunged forward with his saber impaling his enemy. Reversing the force pull he pushed the Fleshraider off his blade only to see the next one immediately behind it. Again he repeated the move, the force pull was not as strong as the first but this Fleshraider was closer and its momentum threw it onto the point of the emerald blade. Once more Willax pushed his enemy off and it crumpled into a heap right on top of the first attacker.

At this point a dark ripple of the force hit Willax, but like a sudden scream it was gone in a moment leaving only a residual feeling of alarm. Willax was surprised to see his final attacker turn and run, the rocks opened for it and it fled along with all of the others Willax could see in front of him. Behind him he was only vaguely aware of Vellick and Jedi Jaste, the exertion of this most recent combat had finally drained the Nalroni initiate. He slumped to one knee and holding his blade in the hanging guard of soresu he remained there breathing heavily and struggling to maintain his balance.

:: Padawan Vellik Eris ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

Vellik watched as a hailstorm of debris pelted the four Flesh Raiders that were approaching them.  A few stray rocks bounced off an invisible shield protecting to the two young Jedi.  Suddenly the Jedi Knight rushed towards the Raiders, making quick work of one as a Raider was flung away by a powerful Force Push.  He could feel anger beginning to grow in her as another Raider's blow connected with her arm.  Vellik rushed towards her to assist as the largest Raider's blade clashed with the now duel-wielding Knight Jaste's blades, forcing her down on to one knee.  As the padawan approached another tormented howl came from the forest as a wave of pain and anguish rippled through the Force, similar to the one he had felt earlier.  Vellik swung hard at the Raider's left leg, slicing almost halfway through.  The now wounded and howling Flesh Raider was quickly dispatched as the Jedi Knight impaled him through the chest and used the Force to push him away.  Vellik could only nod in acknowledgement as she thanked him for his help.

He heard a mechanical roar approaching at high speed from the forest and seconds later a group of Jedi leapt into the battle.  Two of them moved to assist their group and Vellik gladly fell back with Shayla and Willax into a defensive position.  The battle was over quickly as the fresh Jedi either cut down the remaining Flesh Raiders or forced them to retreat back into the forest.

Vellik deactivated his lightsaber and looked around the battlefield, littered with the bodies of dead or dying Flesh Raiders.  The group of Twi'Lek's that defended the barricade he was assigned were collecting their opponent's weapons and anything else of value left on the battlefield.  He could sense some of the Flesh Raiders, still alive but too injured to even drag themselves off the field, doomed to an agonizing death.  The dark presence was now gone along with the feelings of anger and hate, but he could still sense fear from the Raiders who had fled into the forest and waves of pain washing over him from those that would not live much longer.  His eyes suddenly fixed on the Flesh Raider who's mind he had twisted.  The only death that had come at his hand was early in the battle from a deflected blaster shot, but how many had died at the hands of this Raider that Vellik had poured his anger into?  It was the first time since joining the Jedi he had lost complete control of his emotions.

Vellik fell to his knees, suddenly aware of how completely exhausted he was, and looked over at Jedi Jaste.  He didn't need to read her through the Force to tell that she was feeling much the same as he was.  He finally found his voice and was barely able to choke out "I'm sorry, Master."  Vellik stared down at the ground, fighting hard not to lose control again and give in to his sadness.

::Alecs Varin::
::Kalikori Outskirts::
Alecs saw the swirling mass of debris and Force energy that Jedi Jaste had created as she, Vellik and Willax fought Flesh Raiders on their flank of the city. By this point Alecs and the Twi-leks had dealt with three of the Flesh Raiders they were engaged with but the remaining three seemed more tenacious then the others, blocking almost all of the strikes and ripostes that the young Jedi and Twi-Lek hunters through their way and had beaten back hard, Alecs had taken a few glancing hits from the Raider's crude clubs and Tensson was bleeding from a gash in his arm.

Alecs saw the immense amount of power that Jedi Jaste was outputting and noticed how effectively she combined her Force techniques with her lightsaber fighting style to keep the Flesh Raiders off-guard and take them down systematically. Alecs backed away a few meters and closed his eyes briefly and centered himself, as he opened his eyes he raised his hand towards the remaining Flesh Raiders and focused on the ground around them. He poured Force energy into the area and created a vortex of blueish, swirling energy that caught them and prevented them from furthering their attack.

As he did he heard a scream of several speeders arrive and saw several Jedi of various races jump out. One of them, a female Twi-Lek with a green lightsaber, ran towards their flank and as the hunters fell back she entered the fray, making short work of the now restrained Flesh Raiders. Alecs felt the presence of Master Epecegu draw closer and he felt relieved that the dark presence appeared to be dealt with for the most part. Alecs deactivated his lightsaber and surveyed the body stricken battleground. Tensson was thanking the Jedi who helped them and the other two were scavenging for anything that could be reused and he saw that on the other side of the village Jedi Jaste and the others seemed to be just as tired as he was having just finished off the last of their horde. Alecs collapsed onto one knee, giving his tired limbs a break from movement now that the battle was over. He arose after a few minutes, slipped his lightsaber into it's guard, wiped as much of the mixture of blood and sweat off his brow ans he could, and walked over to help the hunters search for useful items.

::Willax Thylac, Nalroni Initiate Jedi::
::Kalikori Village, Tython::

The final moments of the battle were a confusing blur to Willax. The Fleshraiders seemed to lose the will to fight just after the release of dark energy. Moments later reinforcements arrived from the temple. Two Jedi Knights took up position between Willax, Jedi Jaste and Vellick and the remaining Fleshraiders, while a Jedi Twi’lek and what appeared to be the Nautolan, who had been meditating near Willax outside the temple that very morning drove them back into the woods.

Willax followed Jedi Jaste and Padawan Vellick drawing on the force to numb his pain. Dozens of dead Fleshraiders lay about the battlefield and near the craters in the ground where the cannon had shot at him, lay at least one dead Twi Lek. Another dead Twi Lek was on the ground near the end of the thorn bush barrier that Willax had grown. The Nalroni suddenly he wondered if Fetjo had survived his head wound and how Kutchmi and Zudelsk had fared.

Vellick seemed in some distress and was speaking in an almost forlorn way to Jedi Jaste. Instinctively Willax edged away not wanting to intrude. He was feeling quite weak and dizzy now so he found a clear spot and sat down to mediate. He could not help but wonder if the path of a padawn was the correct one for him, he had seen skirmishes in the Agricorps and even a battle similar in size to this against the non-sentient Rakgouls on Taris. But to repeatedly take the life of sentients and to spend life moving from conflict to conflict, at that moment it seemed a terrible prospect. As Willax meditated he recalled the voice of one of the masters that had died back on Coruscant. He had been talking to the initiates about this very choice, a point that every initiate had to move past to become a padawan. The Master had said that sensitivity to the force was a huge gift, yet it was also a huge responsibility. To use the force for the good of all could come at a great personal cost. Yet accepting this burden and not passing it on to others, to take the strain upon oneself was the ultimate mark of a Jedi and the true path to the wisdom of the unifying force.

Willax could see some of the other Padawans from his training group not far away. Padawan Varin had moved onto the battlefield to help the Twi Leks that he had fought alongside keeping the right flank secure. Padawan Arcos stood in the centre of the defensive line that he had successfully held throughout the battle.  Padawan Cya was tending the wounded close to the position Willax had originally held and then there was Vellick. The youngest and most inexperienced of them all, he had risked his life when Willax had been cut off from Jedi Jaste. His courageous act had been entirely selfless yet out of it he had had some sort of brush with the darkside.

Willaxs’ moment of doubt passed, if he could find a master, and his senses told him he would, he would serve as a Padawan. He would try to maintain the peace and he would face down darkness and evil where it lurked, he would do it for those that were unable to do it for themselves and he would do it for his comrades’ and fellow sentients of the Jedi order.

:: Shayla Jaste ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

It was hard to block out the pain washing around them, attacking her from all sides through the Force. With another sigh Shayla let go of her lightsaber hilt, it returning to her belt as if summoned there. Her head lifted as she heard Vellik’s sad voice. She shook her head slightly, then walked the few steps until she was in front of him and squatted down, holding the training saber in a reverse grip rather than dropping it to the ground when someone would only have to pick it up again. She could sense the Padawan was particularly sensitive to the emotions of others. She had to put aside what she felt and aid him now before he succumbed to it. The young Jedi put her hand gently on his shoulder, lending him some of her physical and mental strength and doing her best to convey a sense of calm emotion to him, even though she did not feel it herself. If nothing else she hoped her efforts could shield him somewhat from the emotions that battered against him so that he may recover his self control.

“Padawan Eris, this is what happens in a battle. As Jedi, we must sometimes do these terrible things to protect others. Do not let yourself be taken over by your emotions, you must learn to let them go as hard as I know it is.”

Vellik looked up at her and her voice hardened ever so slightly. “You cannot use the Force like that, to control another in such a manner is wrong. That is the path to the Darkside, you cannot let your emotions rule your actions.”

She shook her head. The words had to be said, but they sounded so hypocritical coming from her when she had done the exact same thing. Shayla’s voice softened again, her hand still on his shoulder.

“I must apologise as well, I have failed you as a teacher. I let my emotions rule my actions twice during that battle. I understand your struggle all too well Vellik. It is not easy when you can feel so much anger and hatred and pain assaulting your senses. It’s very easy to give in and let them affect you, especially when you know so much power and strength can be gained from them. The lure of that is strong. Both times I managed to rein in my emotions, but if I hadn’t…..”

Shayla’s eyes hardened as she remembered back to that fateful moment in capture when she cracked and drew upon the Darkside to kill her torturer. Then she had discovered she had the ability to use a relatively rare skill called Force Maelstrom. Few people knew she had it. It was extremely powerful and extremely dangerous to friends and foe alike. She hadn’t yet mastered it, in part because it was so dangerous even to practice, but also in part because she feared it. The ability always invoked those same emotions she had felt back then, the fear, the shame, the pain, the intense rage. Her emotions made her powerful and made her understand why the lure of the Dark side was so attractive. Had she lost control and used that ability here, everyone on the battlefield and in the village, or at least this side of it, would have been dead or injured and the battlefield would have been even more a mess of debris. She thanked the Force that didn’t happen, giving Vellik a small smile and patting his shoulder. Shayla spoke to him sincerely.

“Well, thankfully it didn’t happen. Take heart young one. You helped to save the Twi’leks in this village. You have done them a great service, and you saved my life as well. For that I am most grateful. Do not dwell on your mistake, on the fact you lost control. It was the wrong action but regardless we won this day and you saved so many lives in the process. Instead, learn from it. Learn to recognise those emotions, how to control them. Learn to face them and overcome them. It will take time but it is possible, I promise. It took me a while to figure out how and I am still learning but I am much improved. If you ever wish to talk about it I will be glad to listen and help you the best I can.”

With another smile she stood again, the training blade still held in the reverse grip. Some of the more practical and hardened Twi’leks were now going through the grizzly job of ending the pain of these dying Flesh Raiders. Shayla cringed as she vaguely sensed their life forces expire. It was the merciful thing to do since the poor creatures were too badly injured, the most the Jedi could do was ease their suffering and as much as Shayla hated to make that decision they had to prioritise their healing to their allies. It was bad enough a couple of the Twi’leks had lost their lives, she’d hate for more to lose theirs from poor medical treatment. She saw Willax sitting in a meditative pose and sensed he was still in pain. She made to move towards him but the female human Jedi held up her hand towards the consular.

“Save your strength Shayla, you need to recover it before you can help others.”

Shayla nodded and her fellow Consular walked over to the Nalroni, sitting down cross legged in front of him and concentrating her healing power on relieving his pain and knitting the flesh back together. The rest of the Padawans seemed to be safe as well much to her relief. Shayla saw the large red Jedi Twi’lek walking towards them and her eyes flickered down to the still somewhat upset Padawan and then back to his Ikis’s, her eyes questioning. He got her hint and slowly she felt a small amount of calm and peace build up as Ikis brought his Aura up. Shayla instantly let herself open to it, letting that calm and warmth to help her body recover and ease her worried and sorrowful mind. The pain in her aching arm slowly subsided as she walked his direction.

“I am sorry Ikis” she spoke quietly. “It seems I have not yet learnt to control myself.” With a sad shake of her head she continued on. “Twice I let the emotions and the Darkside rule me. The battle took much out of me, I have not had to kill so many sentients at once like that. I thank the Force I was given the strength to do what was necessary.”

Ikis knew all too well of her aversion to violence and killing. It had been him who had helped her overcome it and develop the lightsaber skills she should have learnt better as a padawan.

:: Jedi Master Ikis Epecegu ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

~Ikis encountered a few Flesh Raiders along the way back towards the village.  Most did not engage him.  They were fleeing for their lives at this point.  He had heard speeders in the distance, probably meaning more Jedi had arrived.  The only Flesh Raiders he bothered with were ones that were carrying either their crude blasters or a training lightsaber.  The blasters were destroyed as best as possible, and the lightsabers were removed from their person, both actions being made as best as possible to not further injuring the creatures.  For the most part they seemed willing to relinquish their weapons so long as they were allowed to keep fleeing.  Eventually he came to the edge of the forest and surveyed what was going on.~

"What a mess...."

~There were dead, dying, or injured Flesh Raiders littering the area, and he also spotted the wreckage of what must have been their crude cannon.  The pain in the Force was palpable from all the fighting.  He could see four Jedi had joined Shayla and the students and were routing the remaining Flesh Raiders.  Ikis made his way towards Shayla's group, picking his way through the mess.  Along the way he encountered a number of Flesh Raiders.  The ones that he knew were too far gone he ended their suffering with a quick lightsaber thrust.  The ones that weren't he let be, but tried to keep a visual record of where they were to send healers when there was time.  As he got closer, he noticed parts of the defensive line had taken some bad hits.  A pang of sorrow hit him as he could see a couple Twi'leks down, very likely dead.  One of the other Jedi approached him, a male Nautolan, and Ikis spoke up.~

"Thank you for coming to help.  At this point, let the rest of the Flesh Raiders go.  Keep an eye out though for ones that are carrying training blades.  Try and collect them back from the creatures.  If you see any that are too gravely injured,  don't let them suffer any more."

~The Nautolan nodded and went on his way to give instructions to the others.  Ikis turned when he heard two more approaching on speeders.  He flagged the two Jedi down and they drove over in his direction.  By their garb and equipment he could tell they were healers.~

"I'm glad you are here.  Please start with the Twi'leks and then move to the Padawans.  After that we'll see about helping any remaining Flesh Raiders."

~The two looked at each other and then nodded, heading over to the barricades to check out the Twi'leks that had been in the battle.  Once they took off Ikis made his way to where Shayla and a couple of the Padawans were.  When he approached he saw a look from Shayla towards one of the Padawans.  Ikis brought up his Aura once more to help bring some peace to them.  Shayla then approached him and quietly spoke up.  She admitted her troubles with this fight.  It didn't surprise him.  Such a thing was not easy to bear if one wasn't used to it.  Ikis only had an advantage over her in that he had seen battles like what they had just fought during the course of the war.  It wasn't something he relished or wished to dwell on, but the experiences he had helped him deal with what had just transpired.  He reached out and squeezed her shoulder, also speaking softly.~

"You are stronger than you think.  You just need more time and experience to find all that strength.  Regardless though, you did well today."

~He turned to the other Padawans near Shayla, raising his voice some.~

"All of you did well."

:: Padawan Vellik Eris ::
:: Outside Kalikori Village ::

The padawan felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Shayla in front of him.  He could feel her attempting to aid him in regaining his strength and calming his mind, and the powerful emotions that swirled around him threatening to send him into despair seemed to diminish.  Vellik looked up at her as she spoke and sat silently listening.

He knew what she said was true, but he had never been in a battle before.  He had joined the Jedi to learn to control his emotions and bury this dark power that terrified him, not be thrown into situations where he would use it.  Clearly he still had a long way to go in controlling them.

He couldn't help but feel surprised when she apologized to him, and felt a pang of guilt when she mentioned such strong emotions assaulting the senses.  His own anger towards the Flesh Raiders had probably not helped Shayla's emotional state, and he wondered how much his feelings had effected her loss of control.  Shayla suddenly paused in mid-sentence as she seemed to be thinking about something, he though possibly remembering a past experience that had also caused her to lose control.

When she finished speaking and departed to check on Willax he felt better and more in control, despite the occasional ripples in the Force he felt as the dying Flesh Raider's misery was ended.  Ikis approached the three of them and he could feel an even stronger sense of calm and peace come over him.  Finally Vellik rose to his feet and realized, with no small measure of surprise, that he had made it through the battle uninjured, at least physically.  He looked towards Willax to see one of the newcomers aiding him in his healing.  Vellik needed to do something to keep himself from dwelling on what had just happened.  When Ikis and Shayla had finished speaking, Vellik approached them and sent a feeling of gratitude towards Shayla for her help.

"Master," He began bowing his head slightly to Master Epecegu, "what can I do to help?"

::Willax Thylac, Nalroni Initiate Jedi::
::Kalikori Village, Tython::

As Willax was meditating, a female Human Jedi came and sat opposite and began to help treat his wounds. Willax felt the pain in his back begin to subside as the Jedi began to knit the tissue together, as she did it she spoke to the Nalroni through the force.

“Your wound is not bad Padawan” she said in a calming tone “I sense you stopped the bleeding yourself, it is not how a healer would have done it but it is good work none the less.”

Despite the work of the Jedi, the pain in Willaxs wrist seemed to be getting worse and he required almost all of his connection to the force to keep it in check. Unable to respond to the Jedi through the force while controlling his pain, Willax answered in a shaky voice. “Thank you Jedi, but I am not a Padawan I am an Initiate from the Agricorps, Willax Thylac” Willax winced as there was a sharp pain at his shoulder.

“I have just replaced a chip of bone that was loose in your wound Initiate” said the Jedi “I think a healer will have to fuse it properly but it should serve for now, I feel a very high level of pain in you. How did you acquire this wound on your wrist?” She asked.

“To be truthful I am not sure” Willax replied “I did not even feel it at the time, I was trying to get away from a group of Fleshraiders and when I looked down I noticed my arm had been cut. It seems to be getting worse.”
Willax felt the Jedi probe his wound with the force, it was all he could do to prevent himself crying out.

“I have heard of this before Initiate” said the Jedi “some of the Fleshraider Shaman carry blades that are coated with an irritant, those that are wounded by such weapons frequently do not feel the strike but the pain thereafter is considerable” she paused and then said almost to herself  “they also can cause necrosis, can you walk initiate? Two healers have just arrived I shall take you to them and I suspect they will send you back to the temple.”
As Willax and the Jedi slowly made their way to the healers both of them concentrated on reducing the pain in Willaxs wrist. The proximity of Master Epecegu who was using his force aura was also a benefit to Willax as he struggled to stay in control.

When they arrived at the barricade they found the healers and Padawan Cya treating four wounded Twi Leks including Fetjo and Zudelsk. A fifth lay sightly away from the others with a piece of cloth covering its face and upper body.
“just wait here while I speak to the healers Initiate” said the Jedi  “ and take heart many Padawans that undertake the trial of flesh do not have to deal with pain such as you are now enduring now, if you are able to control your pain that trial should be of little challenge in the future”.

Willax slumped into an approximate posture of meditation, he tried to narrow his focus and concentrate all his will upon the wound on his wrist that was now agonising. He was vaguely aware that Zudelsk, whose wound appeared to be minor, was talking to him, but Willax was not able to reply. The Nalroni briefly opened his eyes and saw the Jedi and one of the healers, a female Mon Calamari heading in his direction. He took a deep breath and drew heavily on the force once more, as he struggled to combat the pain.
