Actually, your total length if you went with 32-36 inch blades would be around 7 foot tall or better.

You're probably better off that way. If they're too long, you can always cut them down.

Master Artorius cut his using a rather simple method, I will let him comment here and explain it.  If I'm not mistaken it was as simple as sawing through the polycarb blade and cutting the film with scissors, but he will confirm this.

Yep.  Used a hacksaw.  You have to careful about getting bits of the plastic inside the hilt around the film but even if it gets in there it's no big deal.  It doesn't really get noticed.

Dremels cut very well. Really good and useful tool to have. It will cut the.blade very smoothly. As well as the film. Particles would be an issue, so maybe plug the empty end with something like a small cotton ball?
