I currently have the Menace CE with sound. I want to get another one, to make it double ended.

Is sound really necessary in both hilts, when they are coupled together?

Obviously I know that if I were to take them apart, 1 would not have sound. Are there any other benefits to having both with the sound?

Not necessary, no - just keep in mind you won't be getting flash-on-clash on the soundless saber.

My only concern would be stopping the battery pack in the soundless saber from punching out the speaker in the sound saber. Adjustable vented coupler would make a nice barrier between the two sabers.
