"Bluing" of emitter windows

Just wondering, has anybody successfully blued or blackened around the emitter windows on their sabre? I'm looking at doing something similar to the look on Kylo Ren's sabre (around the cross-guard ports) to my Apprentice when it arrives, to give it that well used look!

Should have specified, I did my custom emitter which is made of brass pipe and I disconnected it before hand safety first!

blueing, like gun blue, when used on this type of aircraft alloy aluminum, will give you a wicked rust!  It'll blacken too, but it creates tons of rust/ bronze colour as well- It's pretty awesome.  I actually think that'd work great, because if you look around at some of the more replica type versions of kylo's saber they've often got a splash of orange/ rust colour there on the quillions.  I did some here on my first mod:

with cast aluminum the blueing will actually work like product is intended, resulting in a deep blue/ black, almost reflective finish, like a vintage gun barrel.  But the cast alloy has more iron in it. 

Blackener, like aluminum black, is another cool option.  Before my first mod, i tinkered a bit and paired a liberator in a sort of yin/ yang style with a dark liberator by blackening all the grooves and also the emitter area, around all the windows and the flange etc.  You can check that out here:

Wow RevanReborn, that's some serious modding, they both look awesome!
I'll probably just do easier weathering since it's my first time, e.g., sanding first, then matte black spray paint, then a matte clear coat (similar to this picture), followed by some black leather Tsuka Ito wrapping  -



I just hope it comes out looking as awesome as yours!

thanks Seano   glad to provide some info.

I think your plans for the saber sound awesome-  that type of weathering can look AMAZING, it's what Drahcir does for example, so you can't go wrong.  Definitely keep us posted, can't wait to see it!

Here's my first attempt at weathering my Apprentice v4, just used some matte black enamel paint, followed by some clear coat rust proofing fixative spray paint. Although there's a lovely ring around the switch (I used round sticking plasters to protect the switch and the sound holes in the pommel while painting), I'm not too worried, as it will be covered by the Tsuka Ito wrapping when it arrives.
I'm also going to swap out the guarded switch for an AV switch, so it sits more flush on the wrapping.
