Many a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan has started to binge-watch Marvel’s Daredevil season 2 now that it’s available for viewing on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start looking forward to the next Marvel/Netflix TV series: Luke Cage. Mike Colter is reprising his Jessica Jones role as the namesake of the upcoming Netflix show; one which will leave Hell’s Kitchen behind to explore a different side of Manhattan – including, locations such as the MCU version of Harlem – as the super-strong, bullet-proof Luke does his best (and, one presumes, fails) to keep his head down and stay out of trouble after what happened to him in Jessica Jones season 1.

Luke Cage season 1, as was created and run by Cheo Hodari Coker (Southland, Ray Donovan), won’t premiere on Netflix until September of this year. However, a teaser for the show has already been attached to Daredevil season 2 on Netflix, though you can now check out screenshots taken from the preview online (including, the official Luke Cage series logo).

The Luke Cage teaser shows Colter’s “Power Man” squaring off against a pack of armed goons in a gym. The clip, which only runs around 24 seconds long, includes Cage saying “I guess you guys haven’t heard about me” to his opponents, right before they open fire on him – which, naturally, has no effect on him other than prompting him to say “I’m about sick of always having to buy new clothes” and, in turn, then toss one of his opponents through a nearby gym office window.

You can watch the Luke Cage teaser on Netflix only for now: https://www.netflix.com/watch/80100874?trackId=14535108

Luke Cage season 1, like the two seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones season 1 before it, is expected to uphold the overall more mature and grittier tone that’s defined the Netflix corner of the MCU thus far, and the TV series’ first teaser suggests as much will be true. Coker’s experience making TV crime drama fare ought to serve him well as he continues the tale of this particular Marvel “street-level” superhero on the small screen – and already leaked Luke Cage season 1 set photos have provided hints about the timely subject matter that the series might examine during its first season. Of course, it’s that not your bag, then you can instead look forward to Luke Cage season 1 bringing us one step closer to Cage’s eventual partnership with Daniel Rand/Iron Fist – now officially being played by Finn Jones in the MCU – and the formation of their Heroes for Hire business in the MCU.

As for who we know will show up for certain on Luke Cage season 1 (besides Colter): the cast includes Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2) as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard (State of Affairs) as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) as Misty Knight, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, and Rosario Dawson reprising her Daredevil and Jessica Jones role as Hell’s Kitchen nurse Claire Temple.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced.
