Hi Darth Rage, Yeah that hilt belongs to Eeth Koth! Due to behind the scenes production mistakes Jackson had to use the spare "clan style" hilt and the publishers of the Visual Dictionary and Hasbro Toys thought this was his personal hilt and used the likeness in the book and Hasbro made a Koth saber for the Windu action figure. This was retconned in the Star Wars comics story "Emissaries to Malastare" where Koth and Windu were on a mission to Malastare and during a skirmish were disarmed by an explosion. During the confusion, each picked up the other's hilt and continued the battle but were unable to return the hilts after the fight as they got separated. It wasn't until months later that Koth and Windu were re-united and could return each other's hilt (this explains why Koth's hilt is hanging on Windu's belt during the Naboo celebration scene at the end of TPM). This event was named as a "Concordance of Fealty" where two Jedi, upon parting company would exchange hilts as a sign of utmost respect for each other. Well at least that's my understanding of it. I actually gave Mace that saber, the inscription originally said "To my respected friend Master Windu.....from your B.M.F" BMF stood for Best Mate For!  |
