just out of curiosity and future reference
whats the potential downside (if any) of just leaving the batteries in the saber when not in use
i mean besides not having a full charge. is it dangerous to the batteries and/or saber

The saber will drain the Li-Ions fully and stop the batteries from ever charging again.

It depends on how long you leave them there and on the configuration of your saber.  For a few days from a decent charge, no problem.  However, batteries will drain over time; Obsidian boards do draw a small amount of power while asleep, and a lithium-ion battery will also drain slowly even if it is just sitting on a shelf.  If a lithium-ion battery drains below a certain point, it can be permanently damaged, possibly to the extent of never taking a charge again.  I believe Ultrasabers has stated that, in sleep mode, Obsidian will be fine for a couple of weeks on fully-charged batteries; personally, I wouldn't bet my batteries on that.

If you will not be using the saber for more than a couple of days, or if you think the batteries are drained more than halfway, you should put your batteries in the charger.  If you have a recharge port, it's good to get in the habit of plugging it in just to be safe, since it's so easy to do.

Awesome first order.  The Manticore is a very popular dueling saber, and an all around solid choice.

And welcome to the recharge port minority   Cheesy. I think Racona Nova and I are two of the very few that always get recharge ports.  I even got lucky and my 1st place prize from the last raffle (Archon 3.1) came with one.  Grin
I agree Cheesy Always thinking of taking the batteries out will eventually lead to not taking them out or at least not regularly...just talking of myself right now Cheesy And since I have an Emerald saber with an "Always On" AV switch, it was clear that it also gets a RP...all my four sabers have it, and if I ever get more, they also get it!

It also has a simpler reason - I just want to have the best, most complete setup for my sabers. Since I live in Europe, it's quite pricey to let it upgrade if I decide to do so. So I always try to get the best out of it Cheesy

I think this needs some clarification (and if it doesn't, I'm doing it anyway).

If you DO NOT have a recharge port, you should take the batteries out if you're not going to be using it for a few days, and put them on the charger.

If you DO have a recharge port, you should just always plug the saber in when it's not in use.  You do not need to take the batteries out if you have a recharge port and use it.

This is per Emory, and he has a saber he leaves plugged in all the time.  If the owner of US does it for his sabers, I think it's safe to say that it's a good idea for the rest of us as well.

wait so keeping the batteries in the charger wont overcharge them and cause them to explode?

sorry i was thinking of lithium batteries instead of lithium-ion (big difference)
i was watching this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYon5KOdgVc
emory said you could overcharge them with the vp1 charger (at 2:17-2:40) if you use 1 amp setting.
but the regular charger can trickle charge since its set on .25

Ah, makes sense. I have the VP2 Plus charger and it's always set to .5A.

For a little while (days), yes.  For a prolonged period (weeks), no, it's not a good idea.
