Swap Obsidian Lite for V3 or V4 later?

Hi All,

might be a stoopid question but is it possible to swap out a obsidian lite with either a v3 or a v4?

I'm about to order some sabers but cant stretch to having full obsidian boards in them and i was thinking i could just swap the boards out later.

is it all a straight swap or will i need to change the battery packs too?

I'm going to be ordering the standard LED setup (no tri-LEDs) and no FOC at the moment but obviously with the lite boards you only get standard battery setups...

Hey DaAan,

Yes, It's totally possible to upgrade the sound board at a later time.  You'd be required to cover the return shipping to US, and yes, you'd need to go to a lithium battery set-up at that time (a much better option IMO - for life as well as brightness).

i was actually planning to do the conversion myself as i live in the UK and shipping back to the US is a bit expensive from this side of the pond.

I'm no stranger to paying loads of shipping fees. O_o

I do believe the Obsidian V3/V4 boards will only work with a lithium set-up though.

Unless you need the sound to start (it is alot more fun) I would generally get stunt sabers with the lithium ion setup. Then it is less parts to change. Although doi g that you would need to change the switch too when you upgrade. But that is my plan for a few upcoming sabers I'm thinking of getting.

Yes, you need a momentary switch for a sound saber. Stunt sabers use a latching switch which works in a different way.

Converting an Obs Lite to a full v3/v4 Obs shouldn't require a switch change, though. I think that the Obs Lite already uses a momentary switch.

You will need to convert your battery pack as well.

ObLite and ObPremium both use Momentary Switches.

Do you have an oblite currently?

If not, I'd recommend to keep saving for premium sound. You'd end up getting it for much cheaper than an upgrade.

we're on a bit of a timetable - these sabers are needed for a duel between my future wife and i at the wedding reception in september but as i'm in the UK i didnt want to take the chance of it being delayed in customs and what not so have opted for the lite board in the order of the 2 hilts as it's what we can spare on them this month.
