You want to known what is really gonna irk you? If they decide to sneak in a cameo by Harold as a ghost.
I hope they wouldn't be that tasteless. I would burn the studio to the ground.
Make sure the studio executives are in the studio first.

Evidently this movie will have some sort of tie in to the originals, Ernie Hudson (Winston) is supposed to make a cameo as Winston. It's listed on his IMDB page. Supposedly, Murray, Ackroyd, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver all have scenes in it too... http://www.ew.com/article/2016/02/23/ghostbusters-reboot-ernie-hudson-cameo-details

very true. everyone from the original movie (apart from Raimis RIP) will have a cameo in the movie, but not as the original characters. I thought that was the same for Ernie Hudson, as they have gone to great pains to let the viewing public know this is completely separate from the original movies, so having Hudson playing Winston is odd and confusing. Unfortunately, Rick Moranis has continued his policy of non-involvement in movies until the right part comes along, which is a shame, but i totally understand his reasons.

Yeah, you gotta admire his stance on it. He gave up filmmaking to raise his kids after his wife died.

he has said, though, that now his kids are grown up, if the right script came along he would do it. and he's only 63, so has plenty more good movies left in him

No John Candy...
exactly. mel brooks has joked that it would be called spaceballs 2: the quest for more money, but without joan rivers or john candy and spoof movies just not in vogue anymore, don't think it would work. i always include spaceballs in my movie marathon on 4th May. nice way to end the run

I got through one minute of it. Saw they were still making a big deal over the "female" shtick. Opinion: it's still way too forced to come across as genuine.

Well, with Joan Rivers, you can get away with a convincing impersonator because Joan only did the voice. However, John Candy would be difficult to recast. He was a uniquely qualified individual and nobody could pull off the size, mannerisms, voice, and comedic style/timing.

Akroyd approved. He says it has more laughs and it's got Bill Murray.

“As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!”I'd say all of that to if I was getting fat paycheck and hadn't been culturally relevant in nearly twenty years. Also, WTF is a "Man-fan?"

Someone trying desperately to undo all of the bad PR that suggests this movie will only have niche appeal despite it alienating a lot of people?

Haha! No kidding. Here's some more alienating material, a quote from Melissa McCarthy from a couple days ago: “All those comments – ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really, four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood? I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, McCarthy’s husband and occasional director], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”I'm sure that all of the cast as received a ton of terrible messages and tweets (most of which I'm sure are horrendous), but statements like this aren't going to do them any favors.

Bill Murray is a legend. I don't think anyone will disagree with that. And out of his SNL peers, he has had the longest and most satisfying career. However, I think the last thing he was actually any good in was his Zombieland cameo (I don't count his voiceover work in Jungle Book as good as that was). So, the comments that Bill Murray is in this new movie isn't exactly exciting for me.
I fully undersatnd McCarthy and Akroyd releasing statements or making comments about the movie. It's part of their job to sell the product. However, unfortunately, every comment or interview that i've read from cast or the director trying to defend the online backlash seems to make things worse.
Yes, the outrage from some sections of the internets is ridiculous and narrow-minded, but there are a lot of intelligent and well-articulated reasons given from multiple reviews, youtube shows, print media etc that highligt worries people have for the movie, first and foremost that it doesn't look funny. Or scary. There is obviously the possibility that they are holding back all the best jokes for the movie (and I hope that is the case). Bottom line, people will go see this movie regardless, whether it be out of curiosity, support or so they can say "i told you so". Unless the reviews are as bad as the ones for the latest Fantastic Four which REALLY killed that movies box office.
Even if the movie is enjoyable, it will probably be considered a flop as it has a budget of $250million. The same as Star Wars and more than Civil War. Unless the movie is phenomonally good I cannot see it making the kind of money at the box office it needs to be considered a hit. But maybe it will. We shall see.
