I have to admit, I've always wondered what would happen if you thrust a lightsaber blade into water. We know what happens with metal and, um, well, flesh... :-)
But what if Qui Gon or Obi Wan had tried to use their sabers against one of those massive Gooberfish on Naboo? Hmm...

Love the clone wars! Season one is obviously geared to a younger audience, but by season two that show gets dark! Wicked  . Yeah, I always remember wondering why there weren't bubbles forming all around the blade lol. probably should have been. In the expanded universe stuff I've read they stick with the physics in the source mentioned above- the blades aren't hot but they evaporate liquids none the less. |

Clone Wars, while pretty damn good, was also fast and loose on the "rules" so to speak.
While it was possible for lightsabers to be ignited under water, they would have to be specially modified. Due to rapid chain reactions and the instant overpowering of water on the blade, it would short out. In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, and fizz/flicker a little, similar to a Kylo Ren blade, but it would remain intact.
Of course, in theory.

One would assume that a Jedi that is specifically going to a water world to be underwater for most of the time will modify their saber accordingly.
