Wouldn't you then have to then re-sew where you cut the straps at or not really?

Here's a close-up picture of where they're sewn to the side seam where the zipper is:

My Jedi costume is done! So excited that I did some photos yesterday evening.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out.  My wife made the cloak, the tunics, the obi and the tabards.  The cloak is made out of a heavy cotton, and that part of it is about 15 years old now and has been in storage.  When she first made me a costume, that cloak was the most important part of it for me, so we spent all our money on that and not much on the previous tunic.  At that time there weren't many options, at least in my area, for material to make a Jedi tunic from, so we used a cotton gauze that was beige with a slight pinkish hue and just was not the right color.  NOW that there has been an "awakening" and my discovery of UltraSabers has ignited a renewed passion for Star Wars, we were able to get the right color/material for the tunic, the obi and the tabards and went all out.  The tabards have a cotton batting in them to give them a little extra mass to drape properly, and they are sewn directly to the obi in the back, so it all gets put on in one piece.  The obi has stiff interfacing material in it (used in dress shirts) to help it keep it's shape.  We were going to make an obi along the "bias" so the "grain" of the material is diagonal like it is in the movies, but that takes twice as much material because of the way you have to cut it to get the diagonal weave to go the length of the obi, but it still does have some "scrunchability" in it.  The outer tunic is double layered cotton gauze fabric.  The inner tunic is right now a dickey, and we'll probably change that so it's sewn directly onto the outer tunic around the collar so that it always lays flat and does get ruffled up around my neck.  I previously wrote about the boots, and they look amazing with the costume.  I purchased the food capsules from an online store, and they were shipped from Singapore.  The custom Jedi belt and custom Jedi pouches were purchased from Etsy sellers "Aethereal Designs" and "LightSide Leather".  And of course I'm using my UltraSabers Electrum Wind (Emerald) and my Consular that I just upgraded with Quick Disconnects and changed the Guardian Blue to a Tri-Consular Green, and I love the pure brightness and consistency of it.  The combination of the dark brown and sand colored fabrics for me were a bit more of a "Gray Jedi" look, a little outside the norm.  The first couple of pics are with my Electrum Wind in dark Pyrestone Orange and the rest outside with my Consular in TRI-CG.  We also have enough of the dark brown cotton gauze material left that my wife said she would make me another outer tunic with that, so that'll be cool and pictures forthcoming.  So enough talk, here are pictures:

Congrats on completing an outstanding costume....Mrs Bladewraith!

And very well modelled Mr Lord Bladewraith Grin.
Seriously, I wish I knew how to thread a bobbin and "put my foot down" with a sewing machine, that is some talent.

+1 to the costuming couple

Hey, THANK YOU! I love this costume, and it's put a huge grin on my face to see your opinion and that I might look as good as I see myself in my head.     Cheesy

On this side of the camera my EW is a nice burnt orange, but the lighting and the camera seem to have changed its look.   Sad

It happens.  It's sometimes difficult to capture any saber's true colour on camera (see my avatar).   Roll Eyes

+1 again LB - for looking great, and for having a handy, talented wife. Smiley

Wow, thanks from both of us  Wink  She definitely was the brains and brawn, and I just tried to keep up by being the "beauty".  Glad I looked like I knew what I was doing.

You definitely look like you know how to edit photos, nice photoshop on your avatar. Your modelling? Good form on your High Guard, nice shoulder position - arms away from your ears!
