The Ship: CEC YV-929 Armed Freighter Resilience

This large, heavily armed transport looks like it's been in service for a while as there are traces of paint on the outside from previous markings from various organizations.  However that doesn't take away from the fact that it is quite fearsome looking with it's compliment of weapons.  A few sections of armor look to have been recently replaced and it is sporting a few non standard modifications.  Aside from the normal weapons, a CEC AG-2G quad laser has been installed on top and on the belly a low profile Taim & Bak H4 turret.  Inside was a number of other modifications.  Upgraded engines and main reactor, as well as military grade shielding.

Further modifications to the interior included quarters for the captain and first mate that have been built off the side doors in the hall aft of the gunnery stations.  As a result the living areas downstairs have been modified.  One of the double bunk quarters has been adjusted to be a med bay.  The other double bunk quarters and the two triple bunk quarters are stock except they do not have a refresher inside them.  With the adjustments to the quarters and the refreshers, the ship can handle a crew of ten and the crew has fairly spacious rooms while there is still plenty of room in the lounge.

The result is a fearsome ship with plenty of room for her crew and the cargo they plunder.  Now free of the Vullen coalition they strike out anew.

Upper Deck:

Lower Deck:

Armament:
Double turbolaser cannons (2 forward)
Double ion cannon turret (forward)
Triple blasters (2 forward)
Concussion missile launchers (2 forward, 2 aft)
Quad laser cannon (dorsal turret)
Dual laser cannon (ventral turret)
Ground Buzzer surface-defense blaster cannon mounted by the rear boarding ramp

Continued From Venomstrike II RPG

:: Kamac Setmah, Rattataki Pirate First Mate ::
:: Cockpit ::

~They had jumped away from Nar Shaddaa and found a good place to drop out that was an open area of space which was was outlying to a mostly uninhabited system.  The idea was to power up everything and give it a full run.  They found a spot that had a few smallish asteroids.  Checking that all systems were running at full power Veega powered up the deflectors and then checked with the crew.~

"All stations report in."

~Everybody reported in that they were ready.  Kamac was piloting and Veega was running copilot as usual.  He would run the wing guns and she would use the forward turbolasers since those weapons were fixed forward to wherever the ship was pointing.  Adgil was up in the dorsal turret so he could practice some with his new hand, and Tauto had been instructed to supervise Blaktar and Ssurong manning the gunnery stations so that they got practice in.  Kamac and Veega knew he could run either station, but it was a good idea to have their two newest shipmates practice running a gunnery station.  Blaktar was running the forward station and would be practicing with the front ion turret.  Ssurong was using the aft station and was going to be running the ventral turret.  Veega said it was OK to practice targeting with the missile launchers, but no live firing since that ammo was costly to replace and they might need it.  They'd asked Rumba and the trio of brothers to watch the panels in the circuit bay and in engineering so they could get a good idea of how the systems and power levels responded during the test.  Kamac looked over at Veega.~

"Ready?"

~She grinned and nodded.  He throttled the ship up to seventy-five percent power and it began to race towards the asteroids.~

"All batteries open fire!"

~The ship roared as all guns blazed to life.  The ship bobbed and weaved, simulating both dodging fire as well as having to follow targets.  They made several runs on the asteroids, flying different patterns all around.  Eventually they called a halt to it and put some distance between them and the asteroids so they could plot a jump.  After putting all the weapons back into standby Kamac grinned over at Veega.~

"Not a bad test.  I'll wanna check all tha readouts in tha engine room, but it seems like we can run most everythin' without much trouble.  Probably can't do full engines with everythin' blazin', but what we got is good.  I'm damn pleased fer sure."

~She grinned and nodded.  Kamac got up and left her to fly as he checked things out.  No circuits had overloaded and everything had been pulling power without over drawing the reactor.  The shields had been running at one-hundred percent and all the weapons were outputting at over ninety-five percent of their factory specs.  The reactor and all the mods on it never reached maximum draw, so it was good to know they had enough juice to run pretty much everything.  Satisfied with all the results he returned to the cockpit and they made the jump to lightspeed.  Now they were on their way to the station and their target.~

::Tauto Teech, Human, Ships Gunner::
::VY-929, Resilience Gunnery Station::

Tauto had stood behind the gunnery station casting a close eye on the two reptilians as they operated the guns. Occasionally he would ask Kamac to manoeuvre the ship slightly to get a particular asteroid fragment into the fire arc of a particular gun. The gunner also kept an eye on the power readouts and Adgils accuracy up in the dorsal turret, both of which were quite satisfactory.

All in all it was a very good test firing session. Ssurong had managed to temper his aggressive streak, he had evidently operated some sort of turret previously (probably on a landspeeder Tauto thought). Unsurprisingly the hunters instinct of the Trandoshan was evident  he lead his targets carefully and hit them precisely. Blaktar on the other hand relied on his lightning fast reflexes snapping shot after shot at his targets, automatically prioritising them in his brain and switching rapidly from one target to the next.

Tauto though that if they were to rerun the test he would swap the two over using Ssurong on the ion turret where his hunters instinct would be most effective and Blaktar on the ventral turret where his reflexes  would be good for bringing down fighters.

The gunner smiled to himself, with a bit more practice either these two could run half the gunnery station, giving Tauto the flexibility to man dorsal turret if required. Of course it was a different proposition with enemy shots draining the shields and balancing and predicting the power needs of the guns, shields and engines in combat. At this point however, the capabilities of both the ship and the crew looked very positive.

:: Adgil Maril, Demolitions Expert and Ships Medic ::
:: YV-929, Resilience Gunnery Station ::

Adgil climbed the ladder to the Dorsal turret and took a deep breath.. the gunnery chair was not his favourite position on the ship, it was one of the few times that he wished that Flynn was still about..for the scum he turned out to be, he was a pretty good shot. The Alderaanian had had some training back at the academy but hadn't managed to get stationed in a gunnery chair.

He sat down in the seat, which was surprisingly comfortable. He brought the Turret online and tried the seat movement, along with the twists and turns from the ship made it a little difficult to adjust to. However, after a few rounds were released he got used to the chair and hit a few of the smaller asteroids.

Adgil's cybernetic hand behaved itself, up until he made his way back down the shaft to the main interior of the ship, then for some reason his thumb wouldn't stop moving up and down. He went straight to the medbay to adjust the settings and it didn't give him much grief thereafter.

"hopefully just a sideaffect to prolonged usage.." he mumbled to himself.  He then made a quick report and transmitted to the cockpit.

:: Ssurong, Trandoshan, Bounty Hunter ::
:: YV-929, Resilience, Gunnery Station::

Several minutes after dropping out of hyperspace, Ssurong removed his jacket, and took up his position in the gunnery turret. The controls felt comfortable, they reminded him of the turrets on imperial landspeeders, and the one he manned on the dropship above Kashyyyk. When all reported in, Krace gunned the throttle, steering the ship wildly through the asteroids, aiding the two gunners in lining up shots. Ssurong growled as he squeezed the trigger, sending several beams blistering toward his final target, hitting it squarely in a shower of spark and debris. He hissed loudly. This was exactly what had been needed after the downtime on Nar Shaddaa, during which he had lost count of how many times he dismantled, and cleaned his weapons out of boredom.

Completely satisfied, he stepped away from the turret, and made his way to the lounge area at the front of the ship. He sat down in a reclined position, and slurped whatever strong alcohol he could find in the galley just as the ship jumped to lightspeed.

:: Rumba Tarut, Twi'Lek Comm Officer/Chef ::
:: Engineering ::

The Twi'Lek stood by one of the consoles in engineering with a data pad in hand.  They had finally completed the installation of the new upgrades and were ready to see what the ship could do.  He felt the surge as the ship throttled up followed by the roar of the guns unleashing their fury on whatever inanimate objects the Captain had chosen.  The sudden spikes in power usage were well within the tolerances of the upgraded reactor, with power to spare.  To his non-engineering oriented eye, it seemed like a fairly successful test.  Shortly after the test concluded Kamac entered the engineering bay.  He seemed quite pleased with the data collected by Rumba and the new crew tasked with monitoring the system readouts.  Rumba followed the first mate back to the cockpit and hung out there for a little bit. Soon they were on their way, embarking on their first job in the newly christened Resilience.

:: Veega Creel, Human Pirate Captain ::
:: Cockpit, Resilience ::

Veega sat back with a satisfied smile on her face as they made the jump to lightspeed. Things were looking up. She finally was the captain of a decent ship, with what seemed to be a decent crew. She had been pretty happy when she had been made captain of the Venomstrike but the ship had always been old, worn and battered, and over modified just to keep it together. This VY929 on the otherhand practically purred and their tests so far seemed to prove that their modifications were working well. More than that it was theirs. It hadn’t been given to her, it didn’t come with strings attached. The money they earned would go towards their crew and their ship. Their crew also seemed quite capable manning their stations, it was good to know that their newer members would be useful both in ship to ship combat as well as personal combat.

The large woman was glad to be on the way to their next job and paycheck but she was also a little pensive. She was used to being in command, to giving orders. On this mission she, along with some of the others, would have to be hidden away, just sitting around waiting for the order that their muscle would be needed while others took over the operation. It would be aggravating.

She was pulled from her thoughts by Kamac’s comment. ”The reports are still showin’ good. Looks like we gots ourselves a real gem.

“Aye” she replied. “An’ tha crew handled themselves pretty good. Should be a good sign fer our first mission in this ‘ere ship. Course, asteroids an' fighters or Imperial craft shootin' back ain't exactly tha same thing.”

::Tauto Teech, Human, Ships Gunner::
::YV-929, Resilience Lounge::

Tauto sat in the corner of the ships lounge and scowled at the projected image of the space station slowly rotating above the Dejarik table that had been salvaged from the Venomstrike.  The gunner would often slip into a brooding sullenness before a mission, particularly when he was sober and the rest of the crew had learned to leave him alone at these times.

The ships crew had, by various means been able to gather a lot of useful intel about the target in what was a fairly short time on Nar Shaddaa, but there was still a lot of unknowns.They had been lucky to get as much information as they had particularly from Rumbas contact. Although on second thoughts it was not so much luck as an excellent network of underworld contacts. There was still something bothering the gunner however. He flicked a button and the image changed to that of a Lantilian Shorthualer. It was not the same one that was docked at the space station but a stock example taken from the holo-net.

Tauto couldn’t help but wonder about the ship, it was an odd choice for a spice runner unless it had had its engines seriously upgraded. Slow and lightly armed were the two things you didn’t want on a spice ship. Tauto frowned again and itched his prison mark that was still red but slowly fading. Possibly the fact that the class of ship was an unlikely choice to smuggle spice was the key to it, the gunner supposed the Shorthauler could dock with a fast spice runner in space and then smuggle the spice into well patrolled systems under the guise of a tramp freighter.
Perhaps it was just pre-mission nerves, but Tauto had heard rumours of Rebel gun runners in the Junction system and could not help but think it would make sense for an innocuous ship like a Lantilian Shorthauler to be used for something like that.

At that moment Vilo and Sampsen, walked past. The three new crew members had fitted in fairly well, they seemed easy going enough and brought some extra skills to the ship. Vilo could pilot a ship passably well and they all had plenty of ship boarding experience. Tauto gave them the barest of nods as they headed toward their accommodation on the other side of the med bay.
In an effort to shake his dark mood Tauto got up and stretched, perhaps he should have a nip of something to drink a go to find Rumba to ask about his contact and what he knew of spice smugglers.

:: Kamac Setmah, Rattataki Pirate First Mate ::
:: Cockpit ::

~It was several more hours in hyperspace before they got to the system.  Rumba had contacted Dok Jetiq before they had left and gotten him on board with helping them onto the station in exchange for a cut of the profits.  Before they got there they had everybody that was going aboard the station change into their jumpsuits that they'd be wearing.  Kamac also used a little skin tone makeup to mask some of his facial scars and make himself a little less scary looking.  A few minutes before dropping out of hyperspace Veega made an announcement on the comms.~

"Alright, listen up.  When we git inta tha system we're gonna have deflectors up, but nobody arms any weapons. Everything stays on standby.  We're supposed ta be a hauler crew so we ain't gonna be lookin' fer a fight."

~She cut the comm and then just a few minutes later the nav computer alerted them that their drop out point was coming up.  Rumba had come up to the cockpit to listen in.  Kamac pushed forward on the hyperdrive lever and the starlines turned back into individual stars as the ship dropped from hyperspace.  Almost immediately their comms buzzed with a hail from the station.~

"New freighter arrival, transmit your identification and reason for being in this sector immediately."

~Rumba spoke up.~

"That's Dok. He made sure he'd be on shift when we arrived."

~Kamac touched a couple keys and transmitted their false orders to pick up the ship to be taken for salvage.  There was silence for a bit and then Dok came back on, this time with a slightly warmer reply, knowing who it was that was approaching and that he was going to be earning a few extra credits.~

"Transfer orders acknowledged Resilience.  We'll be glad to get rid of that heap.  You are clear to dock on level two against ring extension Cresh.  That will put you right above the ship you're here for."

~Rumba touched the comm.~

"Acknowledged station control."

~The comm channel was closed and Kamac began to steer the ship towards the station and their intended docking point.  It was a bit of a tight fit to get the ship into position and Kamac wasn't completely used to the controls yet.  He had Veega calling off the numbers as the ship got closer and he nearly overshot the docking ring extension and then nearly bumped it trying to get back into position.  At the last moment he got the alignment right and the ship met with the extension and locked on.  Kamac let out a sigh of relief as he put the engines into standby.~

"Whew...  This beast has a big 'ol arse and doesn't dock so easy as tha other one did.  Gonna need a little more practice in the future."

~The group that was going aboard gathered at the rear of the ship by the docking ring.~

"Remember, no visible weapons.  Keep everything tucked out of sight.  Also, try and speak a little more proper like in case we run into some station workers.  Don't wanna sound too much like tha pirates we are."

~Kamac double checked the knife in his boot wasn't visible and that his blaster inside the jumpsuit was accessible if needed, but was otherwise hidden as long as the zipper was up.~

:: Rumba Tarut, Twi'Lek Comm Officer/Chef ::
:: Docking Ring ::

Rumba stood by the docking ring with the rest of the boarding party attired in an olive drab jumpsuit that contrasted against his vibrant orange skin.  He had his small vibro-knives secured by a strap attached to the inside of his right sleeve and a small hold-out blaster with a couple of extra power packs tucked away in an inside pocket.  Unfortunately his carbine was too large to easily conceal.  The trip had been largely uneventful and the highlight had been watching the highly qualified Kamac struggle a bit with docking their new ship.  After terminating the earlier comm call he wondered if his old buddy Dok had anything up his sleeve.  He didn't really like the guy that much, but he owed Rumba and so far was making good on it.

"Remember, no visible weapons.  Keep everything tucked out of sight.  Also, try and speak a little more proper like in case we run into some station workers.  Don't wanna sound too much like tha pirates we are."

Rumba affected a slightly Imperial sounding tone as he replied.  "Very well my good man.  I shall endeavor to adopt a more sophisticated tone than my natural state is inclined to permit."  After a brief pause he let out a hearty laugh.  "Whew!  That was tough.  Now let's go grab us a ship!"

"Sssir, while you're all aboard the ssstation, isss there anything I can do from here to assist with the misssion?

~He smirked just a little when Rumba spoke in the more formal tone.  It would be tough for him as well to try and speak like he was some respectable working schmuck.~

"Aye, we'll grab that heap and be gone before they know what's what."

~Kamac turned when Ssurong spoke and made a concentrated effort to speak his words correctly.~

"For now you all are staying here and prepping for shavit to go sideways.  You and Blaktar will hide out initially, in case there's some fool ship inspector on the other side of this docking port.  Veega and Tauto will try and run them through the ship real fast and get rid of them.  After that, or if there isn't one at all, you all will prep your gear for boarding the station if you have to, or repelling boarders trying to get onto the ship."

:: Veega Creel, Human Pirate Captain ::

Veega was standing back from the main group who were acting as the salvage crew, dressed in her neatest and cleanest cargo pants, shirt and jacket. Her weapons weren't any where to be seen, though she had a blaster pistol tucked inside her jacket and a knife inside her boot. In case it came down to it and they were boarded for inspection she and Tauto had been charged with the task to moving the inspector on as quickly as possible so she had still made the effort of the others to look clean and presentable. The bunch of them still looked a bit rough around the edges, but then again salvage crews and spacers in general were often not model citizens from some ‘civilised’ world.

She was vexed about not being in charge and having to stay aboard but there was little she could do. “Yous heard Kamac, off yous two go, and keep out of sight” she said more slowly than usual, struggling to speak without her usual slang and poor language. The two reptilians took off, and she turned her attention to the group that included their three newest members, Vilo, Dre’ss and Sampsen. “Good luck” she said simply, and with a gesture to Tauto the two of them headed back down the passage around the corner where they were going to wait.

The crew left the ship, and before the airlock closed she heard Sampsen’s voice float back down the passageway. ”No welcoming party? That makes things easier...” Creel breathed a sigh of relief, as least they wouldn’t have to worry about a ship inspector and would be able to get on with gearing up.

::Tauto Teech, Human, Ships Gunner::
::Resilience, Moraices Impound Station, Feriae System::

Tauto had donned his breath mask to cover his still visible prison mark in case a customs officer wanted to inspect the ship. As it had turned out it was not required but after moving back into the ship with Creel the gunner changed his mind and took the opportunity to walk through the airlock and have a brief look at the station.

The ship had docked on a long docking arm that was basically a corridor with airlocks and a few sets of internal doors that were all open. At the furthest end of the corridor an auto turret was mounted on the floor while in the opposite direction he could see the salvage team walking towards the reception area at the hub of the station. The hub in turn gave access to the adjacent arm that the spice freighter was located on. The ships yellow and white R2 unit trundled after the salvage team, it contained the launch codes for the spice freighter and the hyperspace co-ordinates for the pre-arranged rendezvous in the event that the team were able to get the ship out. It also had inbuilt scanning and cutting equipment that would hopefully enable the salvagers to quickly locate and retrieve the spice if stealing the whole ship looked too risky.

 As Tauto watched the salvage  team pass through the last set of doors he looked up through one of the deck-head view ports that occurred at regular intervals along corridor. From this vantage point he could get a clear view of the central cylindrical tower of the station. That part above the reception area contained  the crew accommodation and control room operated by the relatively small number of sentient beings who manned the station. The gunner thought for a moment that by simply closing the hub blast doors and opening the airlocks from the control room any infiltrators such as themselves could be very effectively killed or trapped. The station security droids could then mop up the rest.
With a shudder Tauto re-entered the ship, Creel gave him a scowl but said nothing. “I think I might have a look at the scanners skip” Tauto said by way of reply.

Rumba had left the scanners running on a low energy passive scan that would not draw attention but was slowly and quietly accumulating data on the stations weapons systems, shields, layout and life forms. Tauto did not expect to find much of any immediate use but it was better than just standing and waiting. The inactivity and uncertainty of the situation was definitely going to be difficult for those crew left aboard the Resilience.

:: Kamac Setmah, Rattataki Pirate First Mate ::
:: Moraices Impound Station, Docking level ::

~Kamac had cautiously opened the airlock door on the opposite end of the docking arm and was greeted by no person, just an inactive auto turret.  He'd have to be wary of that later if they came back in a hurry.  The group strolled down the corridors to the central area where there was a man sitting at behind a desk at a terminal.  When they approached he looked at the group, saw Rumba, and gave just the faintest of nods.  This must be Dok.~

"You're the salvage crew?  Here for that heap, aye?"

~Kamac recognized the voice just a little from the comm earlier.  He nodded at the man.~

"Good.  Tired of looking at that rust bucket.  Access code to the airlock is Esk, six, Cresh, four, Aurek, two.  Take the lift over to your right down one level, exit and turn right and down the coridor you'll see docking arm Dorn.  The ship is there.  Be watchful as there is a maintenance crew working down there.  They just arrived a little while ago."

~Something seemed seemed off about that, but Kamac just filed it away for the moment as he cleared his throat and spoke politely and as proper as possible.~

"Much obliged of you.  We'll get that thing out of your hair just as soon as we can."

~Dok nodded and Kamac turned and led the group over to the lift where they all filed in.  They rode it down a level and exited.  Sure enough, there was a crew working on something inside an interior wall panel.  The groups eyed each other as Kamac's group approached.  He gave his best friendly smile and nod, but didn't fail to notice how much they were being scrutinized, or that the work they seemed to be doing didn't look like it needed four people.  Despite that he continued with his group and they arrived at the airlock door.  He entered the code, making sure that the maintenance crew couldn't see what he was pushing and then ushered everyone inside before going in himself and closing and locking the door behind them.  That crew had been watching them the whole time and there was definitely an alarm going off in his head now.  He led the group down the length of the docking arm and then entered the ship, also closing that door behind them.

"OK, listen up.  I'm pretty sure that "maintenance crew" might be another group after tha haul on this ship.  They were watchin' our every move, an' that don't look like no four man job.  Back on Nar Shaddaa we heard that there might be another crew after this shipment, well I think we just ran inta them, or at least part of them.  I'm willing ta bet they were workin' an angle ta try and get onto this ship somehow.  We need ta work fast.  Rumba, you get to tha cockpit.  Check things out up there.  I'm gonna check tha engine room with our droid here.  Adgil an' Vilo, you two check tha crew cabins.  Dre'ss, an’ Sampsen, you two check the cargo holds.  Also, keep an eye on tha viewer that looks outside tha airlock door inta tha docking arm.  I wanna know if that other group gets inside tha arm.  Now, move it!"

~The group split and Kamac headed to the engine room with the R2 in tow to begin checking the systems to see if the ship was in decent enough condition to fly.~
