Peace is a lie...

« on: December 02, 2016, 05:40:25 PM »

It has struck over the last decade that Hollywood appears to have run out of fresh ideas for movies. Everything just seems like a lame remake or an equally lame retcon of either a comic book, video game, or 1980's TV show. (With a few marked excpetions......<hurl>)

So what I'm inviting is to hear what others think would make for good cinema.

Also, please be cool about the fact that you are releasing potentially profitable intellectual property. So if you have designs on getting credit for the idea, you may want to keep it for yourself. And seriously, don't be a dick and sell an idea that you stole.

Have fun.

I'd like to see a movie made from the point of view of someone with a more severe form of autism than mine; In so much as, I do not suffer from hypersensitivity to light and sound, and other extreme sensory inputs.

To see through their eyes the struggles they face, and how they overcome them, through willpower, and the support of their family.

A little boy/girl, being given something as simple as a guitar, using it to make sense of the cacophony around themselves.

That's all I got for now.  Smiley

I wanna see a movie about retired gangsters showing a group of gangsta-wannabes what a real gangster is like after they mug one of them. Starring Sean Connery, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Michael Caine, and Robert Duvalle.

Even though Hollywood is basing themselves more and more around existing IP, I think it's important to highlight that the world of indie cinema, which is currently going through something of a renaissance right now. MOONLIGHT, THE VVITCH, SWISS ARMY MAN, GREEN ROOM, EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!, HELL OR HIGH WATER, and SING STREET are just a handful of incredible films that have been released this year, and all of them are very fresh and original in their own ways (MOONLIGHT, THE VVITCH, SWISS ARMY MAN, and GREEN ROOM especially).

If you're looking for something original, pay attention to this studio called A24. They distribute many of these movies that they find at festivals, with MOONLIGHT being the first film that they fully financed themselves. I know one of their releases next year is FREE FIRE (I would link the trailer but it's red band), so that's something to look out for.

I do have one kind of movie I want to see, but it's an idea I'm working on on my own, so I don't really want to share it. However, any movie that features more POC, LGBT, or women characters is what I want to see.

Are you high-functioning?

I am. When I was a kid my mother was told it was ADD, then anxiety, then it was depression, next it was bi-polar disorder; all of them diagnosed by different doctors, and all treated separately. A little over a year ago, my newest doctor since having moved to CO, suggested that those previous diagnoses were all connected on the spectrum, then had me go in for a few screenings, and tests, before confirming that I was in fact on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. We're still trying to nail down exactly which medications work for me, and I still struggle with bouts of hypomania, but at least I'm not wandering in the dark anymore.  Smiley

So, if hypomania is the main thing I deal with, I'd really like to see the more extreme side of ASD.

Hypomania and ASD?

I'm on the autism spectrum, and it manifests as hypomanic symptoms; so I take mood stabilizers.

I want to see a Sci-Fi movie from the perspective of the aliens where humans think they are in the right but they are really invading the aliens' territory.  Or maybe they're just bad humans.  That would be a nice change from the films where aliens are always the bad guys.  There have been books and games like that, but not movies that I know of.

There was a movie called District 9. That's the only one simmilar that I can think of off hand. The aliens come in peace and are forced into concentration camps and ghettos.

STARSHIP TROOPERS has the humans in the wrong, but it's still from their perspective and satirically shown as victory. ENDER'S GAME is the same but more straight-faced and explicit with its morality.

Avatar and District 9 are told from the perspective of humans.  Humans who become aliens, but still humans.  I'm talking about a story that takes place entirely from the perspective of the aliens.  An alien invasion style film, but where humans are the alien invaders.

I don't know if anybody else has read Timothy Zahn's Conquerors' Trilogy, but the first two books are told from different perspectives.  Conquerors' Pride tells the story from the human perspective, Conquerors' Heritage tells it from the perspective of the Zhirrzh, an alien race.  Reading from both perspectives tells you how both sides think they're in the right.  Conquerors' Legacy tells from both perspectives.  It's an interesting way to do things, in my opinion.  It's more outside the box thinking to tell a whole book or movie from a nonhuman viewpoint, in my opinion.
