Does anyone out there use guards?

Does anyone know of a good way to add a guard to the saber? Even just fitting something at the top of the saber and base of the blade could work. What sort of materials etc. is anyone else using or want to use?

I'm struggling to duel without a guard. I've looked for techniques to adjust to doing without, but there are just some strikes that seem to require a guard to defend against them. It's constantly hitting gloves when we duel.

Someone has made a lightsaber cutlass for a pirate costume. Can't find the thread with the pics in it, but I've seen it before. They basically attached a sort of D-shaped piece that fits comfortably around the bottom and top of the hilt in a position that the blade can easily pass through.  Not sure if it's duel worthy though.

Also the Flamberge and Renegade come with cross blades if you're into that sort of thing.

To use a video of yours, Holocron 1. At about 4:37, what would stop you from taking a downward strike toward your opponent's head into a slide to their hand when they parry? This is one example of the kind of strike he does with the kind of parry/block I do, but he simply lightens his swing for less impact, so there's no bounce. This allows him to immediately slide to my hand.

Their parry.  Cheesy
To be more precise - a downward blow is best parried with a horizontal blade. If this is not possible, I would do a so-called "Inverted Parry" ...

This is derived from sword-fencing. A sword has two edges, one facing away from you (the true edge) and one facing towards you (the false edge). Normally, a cut and a parry are done with the true edge, but in some cases, the false edge is better. As the saber has no edges, but the principle stays the same, I call these "Inverted Cuts/Parries".

With an Inverted Parry, you deflect the sliding blow and open them up for an immidiate counter to the head (best done with a passing step to the opposite side).

In our newest video, we deal with the three ways of defending (as done in our Form I, so two-handed only):

Is another saber vendor that sells a Sabet tsuba that connects at the end of your Hills onto your actual blade it looks really sturdy I'm sure a quick Google and you can see what I'm talking about very much considering it nothing else with the Cosmetic look

Thanks. I'll look for something like that with less expense. Probably something designed for PVC out there that would be similar.

Some folks seem that they'd shun the tsuba as non-canon. Others like the look. Some would say the duel style should be adapted for two fighters without guards. I'm not experienced enough to see anything that prevents a quick slide. New Disney-canon in Rebels reveals potential reasons why no guard is needed in story.

Anybody who wants to cry about Canon isn't truly concerned about fighting. Friend of mine grabbed one and it works great. It protects the vulnerable part of fingered gloves. I would be careful with anything weaker than metal it could shatter or bend and possibly injure you if you're using heavy blades
