Advice on using A14 to age my Saber

I plan on rubbing my saber down with aluminum black, should I gut the electronics or would it be safe to leave them where they are. I dont plan to pour it on, just rub it on.

I used some Aluminium Black on my Graflex without removing the electronics, but then again, I was only using it on a small area. I cut a window out to make it look more like it does in the movies, and used the Aluminium Black to give it a heated/burnt look around the emitter, using cotton buds to apply it -

Im trying to produce weathering like drachir, when you wiped it initially was it a nice streaked charcoal look and not uniformly black?
