"The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself." - Franklin Roosevelt

Fear is a funny thing. We have all experienced it. Some people avoid it and some people go out of their way to explore and expose themselves to it. Psychologically speaking there are (arguably) universal fears, things that everyone everywhere is or has been fearful of at some time:

- The dark
- Death
- Monsters
- The unknown
- The supernatural
- Mutilation
- Phobias (far too many to list here)

As I am toying with an idea for a horror movie (and as a fan of horror movies as a genre) I was wondering: What scares you? Are there things that used to scare you but don't any longer?

I'm not really scared of the Dark itself, but more of what could possibly be in the Dark. When I have my saber, the Dark holds no sway over me. I am the same way with heights. I like heights, but I don't want to fall off them.

I used to be afraid of the dark, or more potential "monsters" that could be lurking in the dark. But that was when I was 5 or 6. I think watching lots of horror movies actually helped me get over that fear. Unfortunately, watching lots of documentaries about spiders has not helped me get over arachnophobia. Am much better now than I was, but still stay away from small ones (and we just don't talk about big ones).

I am terrified of being alone.

I am also quite unnerved by silence.

Also, and it might sound cliche, but the unpredictable nature of humans is quite scary.

I do not fear the sea in a storm or a night with no moon, at least not any more than is healthy.

The anger of a gentle man, however, is terrifying. To see someone who is calm and serene and the epitome of class and grace devolve into savagery is more terrifying than a common hoodlum doing so.

Exactly this. Especially watching a "scary" tv show before bed.

I love heights, especially looking down when I'm really high up. I really want to go skydiving.

I would rather be flying the airplanes then diving off of them.

Nah. Where's the fun in that? If it was a spaceship though, that would be different.

Oh why be afraid of heights?

It's not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end.

Actually the fall can kill you.

The fun is you get to fly airplanes. Especially if they were jets.

I'm relieved to say it was a thing of the past. Now I can watch something creepy or scary right before bed and I don't even think about it when I'm in the dark.
