Hello all, I've started to duel with my initiate v4 using the lightsaber form ataru. But after researching the other forms it got me wondering what other people use for their dueling style? Let me know down below! Smiley

And I'm going to repeat what is said in most of those threads, you should start with the fundamentals in Form I and work your way through the progression.  Otherwise you're trying to build the fourth floor of a building without building the first three first.

I agree with Viv, on all of his pointers. Check out the combat sections to get some more information, posts, etc.

Ataru is cool. It's flashy. It's pretty, and all that other stuff. But it also requires a lot of coordinated body moves that most people just don't naturally have. Learn to stand and fight before learning how to flip and fight.

Makashi with some of the wide sweeps of Ataru. I'm pretty small so I have to kinda roll with it if I can't stand up to a stronger opponent (usually my dad lol). My dad's power swings basically made a solely single-handed impossible.

I usually start with Djem So and start mixing in Makashi in depending on my opponents defensive abilities

Probably about 50% Form I, 30% Form III, and 20% Form V--short on twirls and flips and long on basic geometry/positioning.

I tend to be defensive at first with counterattacking to vulnerable spots when I can find them.
Though I'm short and stocky, I have decent strength (not a body builder by any means, but stronger nonetheless), so I tend to use Djem-So style.

Though when advancing, I will incorporate Juyo, striking in a random, staccato, like fashion. I would love to learn Makashi, but I don't seem to have the fluidity of it.

Nice thread! Really interesting to know how other people duel!
I'd say I'm mainly defensive mixing in a lot of wide and quick slashes whenever there's an open spot, so I'd say mainly soresu with a bit of ataru (without the acrobatics, but I would mind mixing in kicks and punches if it were allowed xD).
I'd prefer makashi mainly of how graceful and effective it is, but I don't feel comfortable using a single hand on any big hilt with a heavy-grade blade =(. Djem So would also be great, but I don't think I've reached those levels of aggressive dominance XD
