Who watches the watchmen?

This is a new thing I am trying to pick up. It involves tossing the saber from the outstretched right hand and catching it behind or slightly over the head with the left. I picked this up from a M. C. Smith video. I am trying to carry it through into other moves. This footage comes from my second practice session with this move.

Very nice!

I'd need a helmet, though. Lol.

That actually looks really cool. I don't have near enough skills to even attempt that yet.

3rd day of practicing my new flip. I am trying it here with a stop and with carrying the move through. I also throw in a few other things just to see if I can pull it off on the fly. Next step is to train the other hand, then to try it with the crossguard.

Good night. If I had a Stunt sabre, I would totally start learning that. I don't trust myself enough to use my saber with sound though. How many time did you not catch it when you started learning it? (if you don't mind me asking)

Oh there were 3 or 4 misses just in that practice session. I have the unedited one up on Facebook if you are curious. When I started this move, I started with a Nerf sword. When I moved to lightsaber, I made sure I was standing on soft grass. That saber in the video is $500+ but a tumble on a soft lawn is nothing that I am going to stress about.

I guess a sword would be good to start with, I hadn't even thought of that. Sadly I don't really have a nice lawn, even in the summer. But I wouldn't mind doing it on normal dirt/ground if it were just a stunt. I'll have to think about it. I was wondering about that saber, it looked really small. Looks really cool though. I probably wont do too many throws, since they aren't really practical in a fight, but they still look cool.

Awesome new move, DC.  Smiley

Very nice!

I'd need a helmet, though. Lol.

I was thinking along the same lines, I'd whack myself in the head for sure.  Wink

awesome. well deserved point. I think I'm throwing it too much above my head and not behind my Back/Head. Good stuff!

Good information. Did you have any other steps between the Nerf sword and the saber? I think knowing the progression would help a lot.

Nope. Day one with a nerf. Day two with a saber. Day three consolidating and starting on off hand. I actually recorded the nerf thing too. Ryan Venturous and I are starting to do a thing on Facebook. Once we get our act together a bit more, you will be able to see it all there.

And with a staff
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfpEl0CFD6g" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfpEl0CFD6g</a>

Bit of random staff stuff from last night. Includes the flip catch thing in both directions with a staff, some angel rolls, some other flawed contact stuff that is not working for me as well as I would like with this saber, and some faltering attempts at a steve. As Enso pointed out to me, I lose momentum with this thing on my anger rolls and steve. Part of that is my technique and part of that is the balance of the saber.

Yeah... I'm not even close to good enough to even think about giving that a try. Plus I don't have a saberstaff Roll Eyes  Anyways, very nice as always.

Point to you
