Marvel Television is going from strength to strength when it comes to its television properties. Bringing some of the lesser-known comic book characters to the small screen, they’ll continue that theme later this year when Inhumans comes to ABC, following an IMAX double episode premiere. Originally slated to be a film, fellow Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did well to introduce the ideas of Inhumans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the movie was canceled (for now, it seems).

Rumors continue to surround the television project, with a casting update from earlier this month revealing that Iwan Rheon is playing Maximus, a villainous character on Marvel’s Inhumans TV series. Now another name has been confirmed for the show, with one particular Hell on Wheels actor set to take on the role of Black Bolt.

Anson Mount is that actor, stepping into the role of the charismatic Inhumans leader. Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb commented:

“Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently. His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.

Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck added:

“Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.”

As the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt is one of the series’ most interesting characters. His voice is so powerful that it can level entire cities with a single whisper, so he’s forced to communicate with those around him using his actions rather than his vocal cords. He’s the brother to Rheon’s Maximus and the latter has a huge advantage over his sibling, should they ever go up against one another; a significant possibility, given Maximus’ own ambitions of leading the superhero team.

Mount has already proved his acting chops with his leading role on AMC’s Hell On Wheels, and he did have a short fling with the world of superheroes when he appeared in an episode of Smallville all the way back in 2003. The role of Black Bolt, however, is arguably his biggest to-date, and will introduce Mount to a brand new audience.

Inhumans, in turn, continues to put together an impressive cast with the addition of Mount to its ranks. Elysia Rotaru (Arrow, Supernatural) looks set to play Medusa, while a premature confirmation seemed to come from social media that Owen Harn and Eliana Jones will be playing Gorgon and Crystal respectively. Donnie Yen has also expressed his own interest at joining the cast as Namor.

Inhumans comes to IMAX theaters for two weeks starting Labor Day weekend, prior to its television debut on September 26, 2017 on AMC.

I've heard rumors before that they were thinking of going with an Oriental actor for Namor. I think that would be very cool, especially if they cast Donnie Yen. Because he's Donnie Yen!!!!

As for the other casting news, I heard about this earlier, but as I've never seen Hell on Wheels I can't comment whether this guy is good casting or not. He certainly looks the part. As Black Bolt never says anything it's a challenging role for any actor to express various emotions just through facial mannerisms.

However, Marvel has a GREAT track record with their castings, so I'm sure this guy will be good in the role.

Black Bolt has always been a favorite of mine, even though I don't know much about him. And Donnie Yen as Namor would be pretty awesome. The first and only thing I've seen him in was R1, and he did amazing there, and he even looks similar to Namor, so I'd be happy with that.

Iwan Rheon as Maximus?

Some time ago, I would have disagreed with that, but after his turn as Ramsey Bolton on Game of Thrones, I'm gonna get on board with this.

I was watching a show on youtube discussing his casting and it was equal parts funny and painful listening to them trying to pronounce his name!

I don't watch GoT, but he was great in the tv show Misfits (not sure if that ever aired in the states?)

I saw Misfits. I don't think it actually aired here. I just caught it on... alternative means.

In Game of Thrones he plays a cruel, sadistic, manipulative bastard who hunted and killed people with dogs and enjoyed rape and both psychological and physical torture. His idea for dealing with prisoners is to not hold them for ransom or whatnot. No his idea of fun is flaying them alive. He is so sick and twisted of an individual that his treatment of Theon Greyjoy, a character who was utterly despised at the time of his capture, made the audience feel sorry for Theon. I do believe that he is probably the only person on the show that is hated more than Joffrey Lannister.

Those names mean nothing to me, as I am very proud that I have never seen an episode of GoT or read any of the books, and I like it that way  Grin No interest in it.

But, I can see him doing a good job in the inhumans.

Marvel Television is moving into uncharted territory this year by revolutionizing the typical television format. While the future of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remains uncertain on ABC, the network and Marvel have partnered with IMAX to bring Inhumans to life on the big and small screen. The series first two episodes will first debut in a limited theatrical release window in IMAX, before the full eight episode series airs weekly starting in September.

Filming is just around the corner, which has resulted in Marvel finally announcing the cast that is attached to Inhumans. Recently that has come in the form of Iwan Rheon joining as Maximus the Mad and Anson Mount being cast in the lead role as Black Bolt. Now, the Queen of the Inhumans has been found.

EW has revealed that Serinda Swan will play the female lead in Inhumans as Medusa, the wife to the race’s silent leader. Swan is most known for her role in Graceland, but also joined a superhero project before, in Smallville. Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb is excited to have her onboard for Inhumans, saying:

Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful.

Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck also expressed why they found Swan to be the perfect fit for the role of Medusa:

Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination, to the role of Medusa. I couldn’t be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan.

With Medusa now officially onboard, Marvel has taken care of casting for the three biggest Inhumans TV show roles. This still leaves Medusa and Black Bolt’s daughter Crystal to be cast, as well as Gorgon, Triton, and Karnak. Based on the way the announcements for the casting have been moving lately, these castings could be made official in the coming days.

Swan’s joining does finally squash rumors that Elysia Rotaru was up to play Medusa in Inhumans, but it is possible she was one of many actresses that tested for the role. Swan, meanwhile, has not had a consistent project to work on since her time with Graceland came to a close in 2015, but she continued to stay busy with smaller productions. It is interesting to note that Swan (32) is much closer in age to Rheon (31) than her television husband Mount (42), but that should not be an issue once filming begins. Production has been confirmed to take place in Hawaii and the series is set to begin filming this month, so there is not too much time for Swan to relax before stepping into the superhero gig.

Yeah. She didn't come in until after Justin Hartley started playing Oliver Queen.

Ah.Ok. I popped my head in every so often during those years, but it had lost all thrill for me. I will say that Michael Rosenbaum is the best Lex Luthor we've had on screen. Better than Hackman. Better than Spacey (who was doing a really good Hackman impersonation). Infinitely better than Eisenberg. Rosenbaum's Luthor is the closest to the comics we've ever had, much like Ledger's Joker is the closest we've had to the comic version (as great as Romero and Nicholson were for their times).

But I digress. The casting for this show seems to be on point, even though I don't know many of the cast, which is good as it means I can go in with a fairly blank slate and view them as the characters they're playing. Plus, Marvel hasn't made a bad casting choice yet, in tv or movies.
