I suppose. I'm more curious to know if inflation has been properly factored in. I remembered reading, not too long ago, that if inflation was taken into account, A New Hope is the highest of all time.
Every Monday on the Fandom Entertainment's youtube channel Dan Murrell does an in-depth and very interesting box offie break down. He talks about thing slike adjusted for inflation, domestic gross, worldwide gross, best per theatre average, top 10 movies of the year so far, top 10 movies of the summer so far, how tracking translates into opening weekend numbers etc. It's a really good show to watch if you have any interest in box office numbers.
I think, when adjusted for inflation, something like Gone with the Wind is the biggest box office movie of all time. I may be wrong, but I know it's definitely an older movie. A New Hope and Jaws get into the top 20 when adjusted for inflation, I think.
Also, check out Box Office Mojo website. Lots of great information on there. For instance, End Game made $614 million in China alone!
Remember, Avatar itself was re released and most people saw it in 3d which bolstered their numbers even more.
Adjusted for Inflation it goes as follows:
1 Gone with the Wind $3,728,000,000 1939
2 Avatar $3,273,000,000 2009
3 Titanic $3,099,000,000 1997
4 Star Wars $3,061,000,000 1977
