It's more prevelabt when you have a large family that gets together for a major event like a holiday meal or a family get together. The kids usually all hang out together anyway, so having a separate table for them allows them to interact as they do while the adults can all have a normal conversation.

Precisely. Our extended family get-togethers include a lot of kids, who can be noisy enough that even behind a closed door it’s hard for the rest of us to have a normal conversation.

Thanksgiving as a child consisted of 20 people with 8 of those being children...we all sat at the same table.  Now after the dinner we would split off.

Ah, see for us, growing up, there were about 40-50 adult couples who had an average of 2-3 kids per couple.

I sat at the kids table with my siblings a couple of my cousins and my uncle mike, most of my cousins were older than me by a few years and wanted to sit at the kids table. My uncle Mike wasn't mature enough to sit at the grown up table so he sat with us.

This is/was me too. Usually the kids would be on one end of the table while the adults were on the other end though. But I've done enough stuff with "kids tables" to know that they are annoying.

I wouldn't have been able to function with that many people in one area.  My family is quite large ( I have over 40 first cousins... on my mom's side alone) and spread out so we never had to worry about fitting us all in one place.  But the kids were not segregated as we were included in the discussions.  Coming from the south most of the interests kids were into the adults were as well (sports, hunting, fishing etc.)

Kids tables were annoying. Even more annoying was when you grew up, but were still stuck at the "kid's table," despite being legally an adult, just because you're younger than all the other adults.

speaking of the Young, I am truly baffled by today's youth, and I am not even that old.  Speaking to a couple of employees (both at least 10 years younger than me), getting to know them so to speak, films came up.  Both of them answered they have little time to watch films and never have, saying that was to long to sit in one place.  I have heard this answer before from those below 30.  As a child up through being a teenager I watched many films...but I also played video games, played/worked outside, hung out with friends and family, roamed the miles of woods around me, did my school work etc.

I have never heard that, but it does not at all surprising. They say the average attention span of people is getting shorter.

It is. I have seen in first hand with my nephews and my girlfriend's nephews.
