Is it possible to change out a standard led and upgrade to foc yourself?

Yes, it sure is.  All you need is a multi die LED with at least two colors.  For example: blue, blue, white or red, red, white, etc.  RGB would also work.  As long as you have a different color for your flash, you're fine.  As for wiring it to the board, it's simple.  There's a pin in the middle of the board without a connector.  All you have to do is solder a wire to that and connect it to the negative of the FoC LED.  Then wire the rest of it normally.

Though, anything you do to the wiring of an UltraSaber isn't covered by warranty.  So, if you mess up, they won't fix it for free.  Just saying.
