Repost of my original post due to the failure of Photobucket AND I suddenly seemed to lose my ability to edit my old post... not sure what's up with that, but here we go!
Two of my sabers had been bugging me because whenever I would use them, I would get some rather icky residue from constant spinning/handling. As someone that uses tools and works on cars, I know that it's just normal dirt and possibly machine oil/grease from when the hilt is turned in the lathe.
I had tried multiple things, including a buffing wheel, but it always seemed to leave a film on the metal. I tried a degreaser and that seems ok for human oil/grease, but there was still always that black mark on the palm and inner thumb of my hand.
To cut a long story short, I got this idea to try out a product that I can attest to working very well on chrome on my truck:
At first I thought "eh, it can't really work, it's aluminum, not chrome", but I snagged my two silver sabers and set to work on my experiment, I think the following image speaks for itself:
The dark spots on the red cloth are where I was applying the cleaner and just repeatedly twisting the hilt in my hand. I then used the microfiber cloth to pick up the leftover cleaner and both sabers came out looking all shiny and new!
I wish I had taken a before and after image, but I dunno, maybe you can kinda tell from the pic how shiny they are. The only downside is that they will pick up your fingerprints like a magnet sticking to the fridge. Nothing a quick wipe down with a microfiber cloth can't handle.
It seems kinda simple and I'm sure others have their own way of cleaning, but I figured one more way couldn't hurt, right? Right? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
