I am one with the Dark Side

« on: January 08, 2018, 06:54:40 PM »

Hello all

I am new to posting on this forum but have had my ultrasaber for 2 years now!

I have recently ordered a new saber and will post pictures and my thoughts on it when it arrives.

But for now I thought I would change up my 2 year old saber a litte, not done much to it yet but planning on doing more.

As it is 2 years old I thought I would give it some battle scaring to show all my saber has been through. As I said I have not finished playing around with it yet but feedback would be nice if you like.

Here is some before and after pics of my saber

Looks awesome, love the weathering pattern there. Somehow black sabers with silver weathering and a red blade just look so epic. How did you accomplish the design?

“You think you know the depths of corruption that plague the Jedi?” Saso hissed. “I’ve seen it, I’ve experienced it, I even embody it. Every breath I take is an affront to their lofty ideals and idle Force worship… and so they seek to exterminate me.” He looked deep into Barriss Offee’s eyes, “they were not successful in purging me from the galaxy, and neither will you be.”

Thank you, I just did some light rubbing with some sandpaper going around the hilt. Trying not to press down too hard.

But yeah I agree with you, Black hilts with silver battle marks/weathering with a red blade look absolutely gorgeous to me

Very nice.  I quite like the weathered pattern, and it seems like a very well used and cared for saber all together!

Hi.  It's a good start.  Since you asked for some feedback here is my suggestions.  Stop with any further circular sandpaper removal of the black anodizing.  Take a much coarser grit and go against the grain in intermittent areas using slanted directions in long streaks.  That will add a more interesting look and give more dimension to the saber.  Then you can decide if you want to add a little distressed coloration to some of the areas.

You are a Sith... so go for it.  Scratch this puppy up real good lol.  Grin

I agree with D7, although it is a good start it does look life just what you did. Looks like somebody just wrapped sandpaper around it and twisted the hilt. To get a more weathered look you need to change it up a little.

Always good to seek advice, you can take it or leave it as you wish.

With an item like that, think of the wear patterns it might get. Dropped, gouged, heat burn. All sorts of ideas.
A good product for metal goods is rub and buff. With a black hilt the silver buff works really well. Adam savage from Myth Buster fame put me onto it...  :-)

Good luck

Generally it's better to go more moderate with a first or the first few saber customs until one's confidence and experience developes.  However with distressing a saber there is a lot more room for so called mistakes... that no one but you would be aware of.  Smiley

Nice work. To me it looks more like the saber a sith would really have. It's not like a sith would put it on a shelf and have it all nice a pretty. They carry it into battle and it should have battle scares.
