I liked it. It was slow at times, especially when they started with some of the social commentary. But overall, for not being an anime guy, I really liked it.
First of all, the theater was excellent - Breckinridge Regal 12 in Little Rock. Great sound, huge screen, leather full recliners with reserved seating, and good popcorn. We got our promotional movie posters as promised, which was cool. I didn't expect our theater to be packed and it wasn't; maybe 20 people total. There was a guy already seated next to my seat, so we started up a convo and I found out that he was a Great Mazinga fan from Mexico in the 70's and 80's. He was really excited and was expecting to be jumping up and down, but that didn't happen for anyone - simple reason being that you have to concentrate to enjoy the action and read the subtitles. I caught him snoring one time- haha. I asked him if it met his expectations and he said no, that he expected more and it seemed geared more for a younger generation. Probably right.
There was good action, a decent storyline, and the animation was a mix of that 70's era Super Friends 2D stuff and modern, smooth as glass 4K 3D style. I can't pick out any details because I'm not a hardcore fan of the genre, but the overall experience was very enjoyable and I'm glad I went. I still remember Mazinga - the Shogun Warrior as one of my favorite toys of all time.
