Using the Inosanto angles of attack with a MeiHuaQuan technique called the Little Flower....or what the Star Wars fans call " Obi - Ani " , " Senseless Spin " ( which it isn't....more on that later if the discussion goes that route. )

I purposely kept the angles wide and slowed down the movements just a little.

Anyway, I will be getting more involved in this section so wanted to use this as a way to introduce myself. Browsing through the section I can see we have people from all walks of life and mindsets, which is exciting. Hope you enjoy.

Fantastic, as always!
(And with regards to the weapon in your hand this is the typical "don't try it at home!"-sort of stuff Wink)

Good advice. If there is an interest, I can apply the use of a lightsaber to show the same angles and add 5 more. So it would be angles 1 - 17.

I second that ... there are many feints that can be based on that spin Wink

Very cool vids ... my knowledge considering oriental blades is limited ... first time i see a saber with claws. How do you call it?

Hi Ryan.  So good to see that you remain active on the Forum.  Unfortunately I am unable to view videos unless there is a YouTube direct link.  Hope to have this cleared up soon so that I can enjoy and learn something new.

Hope that your backyard and practice area is nearer to being fixed.  Smiley

That was...mesmerizing Ryan!  Beautiful form, fluid agility, incredible skill!  I would love to hear your take on the utility of "Ani-Obi" spins because watching you go through your forms...incredible  Smiley

That sword reminded me of the dragon head Highlander sword...well, but with quillons  Wink. Speaking of, that is amazing that you can spin that sword despite the quillons length!  Impressive my friend  Smiley

Much Appreciated. I promise you when I first began training with live blades there were....accidents, so please use your ultrasabers first...or a training sword.

Technically it's a modified Katana. The Tsuba is replaced with what I would also call quills. I have 4 of these made based off of Mugen in Samurai Champloo. It's a close replica, but not quite. They hold up well in sparring. ( I've only broken 2 of the 4...which is good for me because I break everything....for instance if you look at the " Fallen " list of my sabers....those are all broken at the moment..... )
I use the modified Tsuba as a way to trap other opponents weapon and snatch them away with my offhand....Kali style....and yes, sometimes my off hand fails and I " lose " the hand. Risk and Reward.

The Little Flower ( Obi Ani ) is something I use in a limited capacity when I spar, but it is one of the best P.I.A.'s ( progressive indirect attack ) out there for sword combat IMO. That being said, anyone practitioners who have trained for a lengthy period of time typically charge me when I plum blossom or use the little flower....especially if they know my MHQ background.

Thanks again everyone!

@ Medwyn - We both know you could do this easily. Your style remind me so much of WuDang.
@ Seblaise - Do you use anything like a little flower in your Savate/Canne de Combat arts?
@ TheDutchMan - Thank you Kindly! And thanks for watching Relic Wars!
@ Dauntless - Always here...lurking in the shadows!!!

I practice a little of Kali eskrima ... i can figure very well how you can "lose" your hand Wink

Oh yesss ... very useful feint Wink

In canne, like in Savate, each blow has to be "armed" using a preliminary move. The "obi ani" spin is interesting because the first part is like the preliminary move of one specific blow and the second part is like the preliminary move of two other specific blows ...

So, in an assault, when making this spin, you can introduce uncertainty on how you will develop your attack.

I will try to illustrate with vids from a group from Bordeaux called "Les Brigades de Truffe"

The first blow that needs a move like the first part of the Obi-Ani is "le brisé"

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLzWdMr2vNQ&amp;index=2&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLzWdMr2vNQ&amp;index=2&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P</a>

One of the two other blows that needs a move like the second part of the Obi-Ani is "le latéral extérieur"

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKRVxielY7Y&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P&amp;index=5" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKRVxielY7Y&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P&amp;index=5</a>

The other one is "le croisée tête"

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LzULX0Ih84&amp;index=6&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LzULX0Ih84&amp;index=6&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P</a>

I do not know if i am clear but as you practice some Savate, maybe you will see what i want to say Wink

We can see something approaching at 0.30 of this other vid :

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXkr2M37ihU&amp;index=15&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXkr2M37ihU&amp;index=15&amp;list=PLzmyUIsesG3oSRC-iWGUas1O5xMYTjT9P</a>

I will try to make vids of my own using lightsaber to illustrate Tongue

I see exactly what your getting at. The second vid has a feint with I.A. 7 to I.A. 14, which I really like. That last video is essentially a basic little flower with more movement with footwork (which I would say is a key component to Savate, lots of movement and superior footwork.) and shoulder rotation, IMO. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Well deserved point.

This is a little older. Fantastic drill to get people to learn how to Freeform. Speaking of which, this is a modified 5pt sumbrada drill, we took the thrust out for the angle 4 Attack. The point is simply to educate an auto response when in combat. Repetition is key. Build that muscle memory. You’ll see all different ranks working the drill. Some of the young bucks prefer speed over technique. The gentlemen working with me at the end decided to keep moving straight ahead instead of work the open triangle. So I was forced to give ground with the closed triangle....I removed the part where he gets hit on the hand. Happens. Always wear gear. Threw this in the thread because you’ll see some Obi Ani applications here and there. We use it as a reset or stall so we do not require talking when training. Hope you enjoy.

This is the same fella two year later. Still aggressive but now he is much better at hitting the hand/elbow. Im all about limb destruction. We want to try a dual wield lightsaber sumbrada.

Anyway, time for some Shading...with a little bit of hubud thrown in there.

Thanks! The J.o.E. members came up with the idea. They think I should do something like that for all of my video's.

You are welcome Wink

I quote Ryan's post and copy/past the link of his vid in my post. Then, i add the "s" to make the "http" becomes "https" again ... like that, you can see the link and not directly the link Wink
