Anyone get the graflex clamp from TCSS? How do I safely remove the bent pieces jutting out on the inside?

The clamp looks great, but the 4 square holes still each have a bit hanging where the clamp fits to the saber. I'm concerned it would affect how the clamp grips and scratch the saber itself, leaving permanent damage should I decide to remove the clamp later.

This is disappointing. TCSS should either tell us about the tabs or warn us it's not for a saber build, but a specific graflex only build. I'm an 1/8th of an inch from the finish line, and am just scratching my new saber with this jagged metal that shouldn't be there. I'm spending more on tools to finish the piece than on the piece.

Hi.  That sounds frustrating.  For some reason I recall a customization perhaps either done by RevanReborn or JediXIX that involved that graflex clamp.  It had to be reduced from the inner side to get it to fit properly.  Best of luck with this and in your desire for completion try not to scratch up your saber too much.  Smiley

A pic or two may help other members to offer up suggestions.

If you can get to them with wire snips, snip them, then sand them down.  A rotary tool would be useful here.

Thank you both for the support.

Yes, I went and bought a dremel. Did the trick. I had bought the clamp with the idea that I'd finally found a simple addition with no need for tooling. Perhaps I'll be soothed if I find more uses for the dremel to make it cost effective. It does feel that each time I buy a tool, I'm closer to going into business to make these things myself. I need TCSS to make parts, because I don't have tools. Only to find I need the tools to finish the TCSS parts?  Huh

I'd post a vid I found, but I think it mentions a brand name that may be a competitor in some way. But for others with this issue, I'll say go to youtube and look for "Removing Graflex Tabs". Not as easy as he makes it seem, but not far off. His dremel may simply be better than mine.

Now, on to attempting the soldering of my own 410nm tri cree. I will likely have fallen to the dark side the next time you see me. Well, after the components arrive.

To anyone trying this, learn from my mistake, use a piece of paper wrapped around the saber to help slide the clamp to where you want it. This avoids scratches until it gets in place where you'd like, then remove the paper before locking the clamp.

Looking forward to seeing the finished saber.  The dremel will come in handy for future projects.  Building one's own saber is so exciting !  Cheesy

Jagged sharp tabs that scratch.

Ground down to fit like a sleeve.

It doesn't quite fit around without removing part of the clamp under the lock.

And to those that are wondering, I didn't fall to the dark side while finishing my soldering of the 410nm purple LED. It was an exercise in preparation and patience. I consider it part of my Jedi trials.
