Welcome on this Forum  Every body is free in this galaxy (i mean as long as the DarkSiders are just a little entertaining group LOL ) but protective gears are, too me, very important. If you do not wear any helmet, your opponent can not target your head or your neck ... that are very lethal targets. So, if you can not hit head and neck, i think that duels are less realistic ... Just my opinion But Once again, welcome on this forum and have fun with us |

Welcome  Veteran duellers are always a bonus to have on the forum but I suspect most will recommend those who haven't already broken their hands multiple times to keep wearing their gear! Consider it your natural armour - and a dark sider will only channel pain and anger to their own ends anyway! |

You Sir are obiously a veteran much more experienced than I. When I practice with an opponent I usally do so with mid-grade lightsaber without protective gear. But my group is part of a stuntman school and we learn to fight with impressive moves while avoiding actual hurting blows as much as possible. When I practice alone for spinning I tend to use a red oak bokken so I do know how oak feels when you hit your own knee because you weren't focused enough or tried to go too fast with a movement you don't fully master yet.
Anyway, hope you don't break your bones again soon!
