RED
« on: July 21, 2018, 08:58:58 PM »

These are just to see some examples of different reds.
The top is US's BlazingRed, and I'd say is the brightest of these.
The middle is just something I got online. I'm not sure exactly what it is. Someone's own mod of a collectible. Not any of 'the other guys'.
The bottom is an US with QD that I put my own make of tri cree deep red.
The BR is still brighter, even though it's single LED. But I've seen some folks share their deep reds and I was curious. So, this is the result. I like the deep red, but I can see that it takes a tri with parallel wiring to get something reasonably bright. I was gonna make my own quad, but the only quads I could find were in series, so I thought tri in parallel would be comparable.

BR has some orange to it, but that adds brightness. Perhaps a triBR with a filter would come out like this TriDeepRed.

I plan on getting a BR saber as soon as I can. This was very helpful. Thank you.

The red on my diamond is a regular red, like BR. Putting the smallest addition of blue tones down the orangey side, but shifts toward pink. Side by side with the BR, it's less orange. Side by side with the deep red, it's not the same. Elsewhere on the forum, someone suggested calling deep red Crimson Red, should US start offering it.

If there was a BR or Deep Red option I work pick Deep Red. But I'm sure they offer BR because as the name says, it's brighter.

That's exactly it. Red is the least visible color of light in the visible spectrum, as it has the lowest photon energy. Regular "red" LEDs are actually tinted slightly towards the orange side, to make them more visible. Deep red is in fact just plain red, so it's not as bright. Ultrasabers uses regular red LEDs as opposed to deep red so that their blades are brighter. Deep red is something used by people who want their sabers to be closer to the straight red used in movies and games. They intentionally choose this option knowing it will sacrifice brightness, because they're more worried about having a true red.
