I can feel you. We lost our's almost 15 years ago and it still hurts. Gone too early, he was 12 and a hybrid, so three to four additional years would've been possible...damn cancer  |

My condolences Logos; losing a family member is always a tragedy. Like you, my wife and I had a very special furry family member that had been a part of our lives for a long time (eighteen years to be exact). I'd never had a pet in my life and he quite literally walked into our lives, jumping into my wife's lap when she was at church. Well, she ended up taking him home, surprising me. I never considered myself a "cat person" or the like but this cat changed all of that. He was our constant companion, friend, and an indelible member of our family. When he developed symptoms, we hoped for the best but prepared for the worst (which ended up being confirmed: cancer). We tried everything but it was inevitable. Suffice it to say, his death still hit me harder than anything else short of my own mother's.
Family is family, regardless of pedigree. For what it's worth, my best to you and yours.

I think what hurts more is that Rosi wan't just a part of my life and my family's; she was part of the community. I can't tell you how proud I was when we'd be walking in the park, and people would just spontaneously smile to see this little dog walking next to me without a leash. Or chuckle while looking at the highly confused looks on the squirrels' faces as to why this dog wasn't only not giving chase, but not even looking at them. Rosi had an uncanny ability to elicit joy in just about everyone. |

I would use those memories as positive ones that put a smile on your face when you think about her. She was loved by not only the immediate family but also the community, that's great legacy that she left behind.

I know. Right now it still hurts in general. But since I pretty much had her with me almost 24/7 for the last 3 months, there is very little that isn't reminding me of her. I hate going to work: things remind me of her (among other reasons). I hate going home: things remind me of her. I hate getting in the car. I won't be going to the park tonight. I keep catching myself looking for her. By all accounts, she was my first dog. Mine in the sense there is no one on earth that she wanted to be with more than me. I know time will allow me to heal. By last Thursday I had already started feeling better by being around people, and doing things has been helpful in keeping me from wallowing in misery. |
