I took one look at the saber and the T-Virus crystal chamber and new that it was a Resident Evil inspired saber.  Really cool looking, Tyeth. I like that you keep thinking outside the box and use influence and key features to build the saber as you always do.

I wonder how the Anti-Virus version would look.... Hmmmmmm

Hi Infinit, I'm glad this hilt was so recognisable! I do try to tie my designs to the inspiration as much as possible, so changing Kyber Crystals for T-Virus seemed a good idea. Even the octagonal shape of the "collars" on the hilt match with the Umbrella Corporation logo (which is 8-sided and can be seen on the speaker cover).

I haven't made an Anti-Virus version (yet) but I am working on "Devil's Breath" from Oscorp, but first I have the LOTR hilt I promised to show everyone later!

Hello Everybody,

Well here goes into unknown territory...or Middle Earth. This is my LOTR hilt Barad-Dur Saber...

I tried to capture the "Dark Tower" in this hilt and to accomplish that look I learnt how to manipulate the texture material to form the cracked rock "skin". Originally this was going to be a "Krayt Dragon" inspired hilt but with a bone coloured texture and appearance. However the simple change made the hilt appear to be made of Onyx or Obsidian stone. Then there are the claws which I made using a clever trick which allows a flat circular object to be stretched along a curved guideline. This formed the curves and by varying the thickness of the tube produced I was able to make the "joints" of the claw. And to finish the hilt off there is the pommel, and the "Eye". Other little details include a D-Ring attachment and nicely polished gold rings (no, not the gold ring but I was tempted). And for SFD a little technical bit of info, I used Anisotropic shading for the metal which I think works better than a Glossy and Diffuse mix.

So, OK I didn't make the entire Barad-Dur tower but it's fairly close for a lightsaber hilt! Thanks for the suggestion and hope you like.

That's AWESOME! It looks like something straight out of Mordor! I love the crackle effect, and the color with it makes it look like lava! Point incoming!

Hello Lady Revan, I am so pleased it worked, I had to do a good job on this design as LOTR is so highly thought of...if I did it wrong I would have a lot of LOTR fans hating me!

Hi SFD, I am real happy how the pommel turned out actually and it could be machined and wired using accent LEDs in the crystal. I merged two UV spheres then used the Boolean Modifier to cut the shape into the pommel cylinder. The parts not affected by the Boolean cut formed the mount for the crystal.

Of course this wouldn't be duel-worthy but it is LOTR. Glad you like it.

Wow, thank you Taegin. I'm glad the wait was worth it for you. I knew I had to get a hilt that looked a bit like a Middle Earth weapon, fortunately I had built an earlier hilt based on the Krayt Dragon but that just had a "tail" that tapered off which I could modify. The inspiration just lends itself to a saber.
