Thanks to both of you! As I mention I have sort of given a preview of this saberstaff earlier in this thread but when the new laptop went down I was so busy trying to reinstall it I didn't work on new stuff as the laptop I borrowed had an inferior graphics chip in it. I was also busy trying to salvage some ships I had built but that didn't work but don't worry I have started rebuilding them from scratch....again!

I will be happy when Microsoft get their act together and all of this crashing and Blue Screens of Death disappear! Anyhoo thanks so much for the words of support, I'm off to carry on work for the ship building guilds!

Hello Everybody, well the UK has been told we're gonna be in lockdown for another three weeks at least but that isn't gonna stop me designing and so I have another new saber inspired by General Kenobi's iconic Ep3 and 4 hilts. I pondered how Kenobi's saber might have been developed (as Obi-Wan was famous for tinkering with his saber and tweaking settings) so I came up with a few versions...This saber I call Echo Saber







And for the Sith, what would Vader do with Kenobi's saber while he had it? Maybe this...

Hi Infinit and MavRick, thanks guys. I've had this saber since before I upgraded but I never got a chance to post it because of other projects I was asked to do. I finally got round to transferring it to my new machine and while it is working take some renders! And I had a mad idea and put the hilt through a pipe bender.

Hello chalion, thanks very much. I guess I could add a slider switch or maybe even a Capactive Touch Plate switch, I'll add that idea to my "To Do List". I like the sound of that.

I also like your Empress that you got (just watched your YT vid), I think it looks much better in basic black without the engraving. Maybe a few bits of weathering and the cheesecloth/leather wrap and it'd be a pretty good likeness.

Thanks for the feedback and I'll work on a slider model. Point on the way.

p.s. Does the Empress emitter allow for the ridged ring to spin loosely? If it does then maybe you could mod it to look like the rotary switch ring on the original.

Unfortunately, no. It's threaded on the 2nd set of threads on the hilt, sort of like a pvc pipe fitting nut. I had to go back and watch the movie to see what you were talking about. That gear looking ring on Rey's saber was able to turn left to activate the blade. Interesting on how I missed that in the movie.

I really like this hilt so I won't be modding it like that. I wonder if someone else would be enterprising enough to make that attempt.

Just goes to show you how different people have disparate likes: I personally LOVE the AV box&switch.  Such a classic aesthetic

This is the analogue of Zearic's main-hand lightsaber (down to the permafrost crystal and the Arctic Blue blade) 

Anyhow, regardless of what your preference is, FT's sabers are incredible!!

AV switches to me ruin the line of a hilt, but a switch box gives my hand an anchor point to keep the grip from twisting. Smaller hands and all of that, I guess.

Ah OK, it was just one of my mad idea I have now and then. A  friend of mine had a Dooku saber and I suggested he fitted a tactile under the red "trigger"switch and he did - and it worked. He was able to activate the saber with his pinky finger whilst holding the saber upright as he held it in salute. I thought maybe the Empress could have a trick activation mechanism too.
I'd just stick to some cosmetic weathering and adding a grip like this...

And to Dutch, thanks for the kind comments. I still think Zearic's thin neck (or Luke's) model I built is one of the best I have done (if not the best). I really went to town on getting it to look right so I was stoked when everyone reacted so positively to it.

I'll get the reworked Echo hilt with slider done asap.

I saw the animated "What Trevorrow would have done" video. IMO, it wasn't much better than the $#!%show we got. The only thing I feel he got right was Rey using a saber staff.

I like this concept.
