Made it into the workshop today for a bit of progress on the battle damaged unit. Progress was made, but needs to dry overnight. Here’s a teaser, with updates coming in the morning...

So, we’ve finally reached the end. All my goals have been achieved, and this is my final answer...

As you can see I weathered the leather, notched it at the scar and burned it with my soldering iron, wrapped 10 ga wire for my grip supports(not an easy task, I assure you), and weathered a section so the copper would show through. There’s a small drop of clear on the copper to try to maintain its color over the long haul. All that being said, I’m very proud of what I’ve created, and oh so thankful fo everyone’s input, tips and help along the way. We are so fortunate to be part of such a great online community, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for joining me. May the Force be with you all...always.

That looks great, Gum!  I like how you extended the scar to the leather and gave it a few burn marks.  It truly looks as if it went through quite some battles in its time.  Point incoming for the great work and attention to detail on this project.

Thanks to everyone!! It’s funny, I put so much time and energy into that project hat you’d think I’d be wanting to take a break, but I’m just chomping at the bit to get to the next one!!!

You're welcome and I know the feeling, had a photo shoot last night with my sabers for DB's light em up thread and decided to fix one of my sabers so that it can be ignited like the rest of my collection.

Indeed, I've seen battle damaged and weathered sabers only to see the leather wraps all nice and new looking.

Hi Gum,

That is super impressive, and I love the way you incorporated the copper wire ridges into the outer design. You could have just used O-Rings to make the under leather ridges but using copper wire makes it look as if the saber internals are exposed. Genius!

point incoming.
