Does heavy sparring require a jacket like the Spes AP or can I get away with a light jacket?

I'm using a SPES Officer's Jacket for lightsaber (if I use one at all) and steel since it came out - I don't want to encase myself in my old AP Jacket anymore.

Our club uses no protection (other than fencing masks for REALLY serious sparrings) and we are doing quite fine. Of course, it means we do have a good deal of bruises after every fight but as you probably know: "No pain -- no gain!" Smiley
