Not a paint expert or a master at masking, but I decided to make this hilt my own.

Masked off the lower portion and the grooves. A shot of Rustoleum Hammer finish grey later it looks, well, a touch sloppy and already worn.

I'm fine with that. If it were a perfect job, I'd just get upset when the inevitable scratches and wear show up.

Hey there, erastosthenes.  I like the route that you're going with this and the finish is beautiful.  I look forward to seeing the finish product. +1

Thanks!

I probably would have used a darker paint, but it's what I had on hand. (I'm being cheap) The tape is off and I need to get a better image of it. This paint (or other factors) has taken several days to dry out enough to be handled.

I like the idea as well. Prophecy is a good hilt for doing something like this

The Prophecy v3 hilt really is a blank slate. I want to keep things simple, if only for my own lack of experience with masking, etc.

I am thinking of trying some aluminum black for the grooved portion that I didn't paint.

Again, wear and imperfections are really welcome. It works better with the overall Star Wars "junk box" aesthetic than a brand new look.

That added texture really sets off the hilt. It’s beautiful, point incoming

I like it 👍

If you ever want to clean the grooves, a baby wipe on your finger, squirted with a product called "oops off", works for me.

I'd probably mask the choke point and give it the same treatment as the haft

I want to try the aluminum black on portions of the grooves and possibly elsewhere. I feel like I’m finished with the hammer paint, for now. I’m also looking for a larger pommel to offset the overall size of the hilt.

I’ll post when I’ve made more changes. Or try some fancy studio shots. I like challenging myself to improve my photography.

Looks good.

I think the hammer finishes are an easy choice for a weathered look. I'm not finished working on mine. I want to wait and see how I feel about more modification.

A slightly better photo. Just for kicks.

I need to throw more reflectors on the hilt. The curved metal surface is a challenge to light evenly.
