Have you ever listened to a song or score of music and just felt that it was made to be performed by that specific singer, musician, band or orchestra ?  That other's could do a reasonable or even good version... but not quite hit that sweet spot of having the right voice, interpretation and creative match.

Please post your favorites and supporting remarks for all genres of music.  Please do not be harshly critical with member's choices but feel free to share another version of that song which reaches out to you even more.  It's all about sharing impactful music with others and being open to musical exploration.  Cheesy

Here is the match that has never wavered for me.  Smiley

Josh Groban - Remember - from the 2004 Troy movie soundtrack.  The movie was good-ish as I like these gladiator/ancient gods types of movies.  Okay Brad Pitt and the other guys were hot.  When I first heard this song I thought that it was a tad long and dreary.  But one day I really listened... and it was almost an epic inner feeling moment.  Hope you can enjoy ( esp. all of the forum rockers ).  Wink

Josh Groban is awesome. One of my favorite vocalists.

There are quite a few songs like you are describing out there, some of them after listening to a different version a few times you can come to enjoy it, but for me most the time only one of the versions is the best.
Speaking of Groban, in Beauty and the Beast (2017) there is a song Evermore that in the movie is sung by Dan Stevens, it is one of my favorite songs from the movie. For the credits, it is played again, and this time sung by Groban. I'm not sure which version I like better, they are both super awesome.

Okay... to change it up a whole lot lol.  I actually really like this masculine/warrior song but wish it was longer.  Immigration Song by Led Zeppelin 2007.  Since I'm not knowledgeable about this genre... perhaps another band could do it justice but not as good as the original.  Those high opening wailing notes seem almost like the horn the Vikings used as a battle cry, while the driving bass and drum beats are awesome.  Can imagine the fear that would occur to see a fleet of Viking ships descending upon an invading country's shores.  Smiley

Thanks for finding links to the songs. I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote the post. Cheesy

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt.

Even Trent Reznor said it was the superior version.

I'll go with the 'Mad World' cover by Gary Jules & Michael Andrews:

IIRC even one of the Tears for Fears guys said that version is way better than their original Wink
