OK, you purists, please forgive this question up front.   But ...

How hard is it to get the "claws" off of the Butcher?   I'm eye-balling the crimson or azure butcher, and I love the overall aesthetic, but I honestly don't like the ribs.  But without?  I am into that.   They look like they're attached with a couple of machine screws, but could someone who owns one confirm?  IF they come off without to much trouble...  Well.   I may have to save some more pennies right quick...

Thanks guys!

That's a good question, I'm going to stay around this thread to see the end result

Just took a quick look at mine.

Just one screw holds each claw from the bottom.  (Hence why if not done right a claw may be loose from the top like on mine) You can remove with a ridiculously tiny 1/16 hex wrench.  However at that scale it is extremely easy to strip since the socket hole is almost circular at those dimensions.  I have only been successful in removing one of the three claws on my Butcher without stripping the damn screw hole.  It was one of the most frustratingly annoying experiences I have ever had with an Ultrasaber.  Angry  May the saber gods have more mercy on you

Thanks Edon!   Yeah, when the hex screws are that small it can get ... interesting.  I have a really cool "easy out" tool, though, that's basically a drill bit with an opposite-direction torque.  Great for just such an emergency!  :-)  Hopefully, though, it won't come to that...

I like the looks of the Butcher, but it doesn't look comfortable with those claws. What I gather from this thread is "they're removable, in theory, but good luck."

I'd be into removing the claws too although we know it kinda defeats the purpose of having one in a way. If anyone wants to volunteer sharing a pic with those removed ... ?   Grin

Exactly.  :-)

I may have to give it a whirl, though.   There's something about the look of the core that appeals to me...

The core is a nice looking piece, I don't blame you. My issue with it is the claws look uncomfortable to hold, and the overall length is pushing it for me. I have kinda small hands. Cheesy

Actually, for smaller hands, look into the Catalyst or Dark Catalyst.  The forward choke is EXTREMELY comfortable and narrower than the choke on the V3 or V4 hilts.

I'm considering those too. Wink
