So I just got myself my first saber in the form of a wonderful stunt saber-The Dark Sentinel v4 with a Blazing Red blade for cosplay. The overall purpose of this customisation will be for cosplay photos. So I've learned that two methods are popular, dry-brushing with silver paint and sanding.

The Silver Paint I'm looking at would be either of the ones I've have access to, either Tamiya's acylic Chrome Silver or Silver Leaf Rub N' Buff.

So which is better in the sense that it will show up better in photos?

They'll probably show up about equally in photos.
Sanding is less likely to rub off the saber in the future, though

Do the sabers have some sort of paint protection? How about for Wax based paints?

The anodizing comes off fairly easily with some elbow grease. Heck I have gouges and scratched off spots on my Dark Sentinel just from dropping it.

Would it harm my saber in the long run if I sand the black finish off?

No, power sanding off the black is, I believe, how US gets the LE version, so sanding will definitely NOT be an issue.
