My question is both what is the best safety gear for dueling, and why don't you sell it?
Do you have a partnership with someone who makes protective gear because I don't see a link?
If you do start selling protective gear can you make sure that it is hema approved, or at least what ever will be required for the Olympics.

With that question I'd like to redirect you to Darth Nonymous, Founder of TPLA. He's an expert in dueling and Martial Arts and can recommend you labels and vendors for appropiate safety gear.

Since you asked for Olympic level standards, my answer may not be sufficient...

I was advised to get a pair of LaCrosse gloves for my wooden sword sparring interests (I've a huge collection of Hollow Earth weapons). So for amateur level, I'd think that'd apply to saber dueling as well (I can break bones with my wood swords).

From the pics I've seen of Saber dueling (I'm new at this), people are wearing standard fencing masks.  I don't see protective fencing coats.

I'd be curious if there is a standard, or at least a best practice (like helmet and gloves)

Honestly, the best gear is probably a kendo "set" - helmet, gloves, chest protector, etc.   Or fencing helmet, coat and gauntlets.

These are pretty pricey, though.  :-)

AS a martial artist, we use wooden weapons from time to time in class.   General guideline is to protect the hands / fingers, the face, and the head.  If you get whacked on the arm or leg, you're going to get a bruise but that's just part of the deal.  But you don't want broken fingers or a messed up eye.  Those are the real dangers.

So: Bare minimum for real sparring is some kind of glove to protect your hands, and a helmet with a face mask to protect your face, eyes, and neck.  Beyond that is up to you, but these pieces of gear are the bare minimums.

My daughters and I are all second-degree black belts, so we've gotten a fair share of bruises, but good eye protection has saved eye trauma at least once and our gloves keep us from ending up with broken fingers.   We actually use gear designed for martial arts.   If you want the make and manufacturer PM me and I'll shoot you a link to their website.   If you're looking for less cash spent, a good option is second-hand sports equipment.  Lacrosse gloves and helmets work well as long as you get one with a lexan face shield and not just a cage.

I am in The Saber Legion and we fight very hard oftentimes. We are required to use Lacrosse or hockey gloves and pads. We need to have shoulder, elbow and knee protection as well as a rigid chest protector against heavy thrusts. We also use fencing masks but only the heaviest grade is allowed. We don't allow Kendo masks because in the off chance a blade tip is knocked off, plastic fragments could fit through the cage, not so through a fencing mask.

That's a good point.   We haven't had any tips come loose yet during heavy dueling, but I can certainly see that as a problem.   :-)

Protect your eyes people!   Eyes number one, head/neck, fingers...
