I don't know how many of you have significant others in your lives.  And with that, how many have Younglings running around with you.  I inform the wife that along with her first saber, I'm spending a bit more than our agreed order.  Mostly because I'm adding a Mystery saber for my 7 year old.  Then she says, "Go ahead and get another one. Make it with a 16" blade.  That way the baby can have one too."
I'm all for getting full permission to spend money on toys, but is she trying to start him too young?  I get fearful when he's swinging around the plastic toy saber that we got for a Halloween costume.  Or am I just being too protective?
Worst case, he can't handle it and I'll hold on to it for safe keeping.  right?

When you say baby, how old? He may not be able to use it right now, but when he is 30 and giving it to his son and can tell him "my dad gave this to me before I could even use it". So just fit that factor alone you gave to get it for him.

My rule of thumb is that if the blade and saber are taller than my son, he can't wield it.  Also, gauge how heavy the saber would be, if it's too heavy, also another disqualification

The baby is almost 3. He gets so excited when my phone rings (dual of fates ringtone) and dances around. I'm not as concerned about the weight, he's strong enough. And I thought about it over night. I'd rather teach him proper handling while young so he's not just waving it around like he's directing air traffic. That's when people get hurt.
I ordered him a 16" blade. And if its beyond his current skill level, I am trained in rapier/dagger form, so there's that option I guess. And you are right, as he hands it down he can pass along the story.

I bought an Initiate saber for my 3 yr old grandson, he will be 4 in sept. My daughter also has her own at home, but his stays with me until he gets a little older.
I had to teach him how to use it and he does get over excited from time to time so one must also have a saber for self defense.
It is fun for both of us to duel together so we are making memories at the same time. This way he has proper supervision at the same time.
I also made sure that he knows that this saber is not like his toy saber! This one goes on the stand next to mine and his toy saber goes in his toy box.
Hope this helps. MTFBWY!
