Is Blue violet amethyst just a new name for Dark violet amethyst? Or is it different?

I haven't been able to find a single image online labeled 'blue violet amethyst'

Maybe I'm weird but I think I can see a hint of blue in it. It does look different to me.

I have a DVA (before the name change) and it is clearly on the blue side of purple.

DVA just has more blue in it so that makes sense

Is the difference because VA is only 2 diodes (1 blue 1 red) and the DVA/BVA has 3 (2 blue 1 red)?

Karmack (POINT), in a different thread, has a pic comparing Va vs BVA. Listed here:

Also, from the order page:

"Violet Amethyst, Sunrider's Destiny, and Arctic Blue are all made with multicolor RGB LEDs and combining two diodes to create the Blade Color".

Right, I know VA has 2 diodes, but I'm not so sure about DVA/BVA. Is it also 2 diodes, or 3? I assume it's 3 given the up charge for it.

This will be important on my next saber purchase. I've seen some great vids illustrating the use of color discs with VA to get an near GB to BR. I like the idea of a single saber that can change to those 3 main colors without having to splurge for an RGB or Emerald saber.
But if DVA/BVA have 2 blue diodes, that could affect my ability to get a good Red as I'd have to block too much light to cancel the Blues.

But on the flip side, I plan to get a photon blade too, which would react very well with multiple blues. So many choices!

Based on discussion in other threads and my experience with the Emerald/Diamond formulas, I'm pretty sure DVA/BVA is just 1 blue diode and 1 red diode like VA with either a higher value resistor in series with the red LED or an additional resistor.  What makes it "dark" or "blue" compared to regular VA is actually less red, not more blue.  Even if they were using an RGB array for the former forum colors (as may be possible after glancing at my Pyrestone Orange MLS unit) they'd still only be using the red and blue diodes for DVA.

I think the color changing abilities using the discs likely would be somewhat compromised if your base color was DVA because obviously there would be less red available before filtering.  If you try it, please share your results.  I'd be curious to know how well it might work in any case.

If there's only 2 diodes then I don't think DVA is worth the extra $15 for what I want to do. I just figured that since those colors cost as much as the Tricree than they'd have 3 diodes, but maybe it's because it's a specialty color?
That's helpful thanx.

As for using color discs with VA, there's a great thread on this forum already.
