Tonight someone bought one of my paintings, which marks my first art sale.  So at least one stranger likes my work. (You can't trust friends and family, they have to like it, lol) |

Some one once told me, you are not a poet if you can not recite your own poetry on the spot.
I think selling your own art is far more significant and makes you feel far more vulnerable. Saying yeah, I'll hear your poem is a lot different then cracking open your wallet and spending hard earned money. A poem or song is out of your thoughts as soon as it is over. Your art is for ever in their sight and mind. Way more of a compliment. I would have to be certain, beyond any doubts that I loved a piece of art before I thought about bringing it in to my home. Let alone paying for it.
It must have been something beautiful.
I mentioned vulnerability. I can always change my poem or writing. I never sold paintings or sculptures because it was just a matter of time before I found a fault I wanted to fix. I never let go. If you can, could or did...you're the real deal. Money just makes it official, beyond reproach!

I have NO talent whatsoever for visual arts; however, both my wife and mother-in-law are phenomenal painters/artists. Having said that, I can appreciate your achievement THAT much more! Your paintings are beautiful. The first one is really nice. I find it kind of hypnotic. I could definitely stare at it all day. I would hang it in my home no doubt about it.
The second one is interesting. I don't know why but it reminds me of something from my childhood. Like those old pot holders made by weaving colored nylon strips together. It kind of gives me the creeps!
I don't mean that as an insult. I like it, but it gives me the creeps. It reminds me of something I just can't put my finger on and gives me an uneasy feeling. So yeah, they both invoke strong feelings that are very different. Thank you for sharing your art with us!
