FYI - Filtering is 100% legal in the UK and is actually part of the highway code that bikes should, where possible when it's safe, filter through traffic.

Some excellent points made here.
And they've started allowing filtering through stopped traffic where I am now

Before I watch it, we wave at another biking that we see and although lane splitting isn't illegal or legal here in Texas, I only do it in rush hour traffic on the highway or street but not at 140 MPH, at 30 MPH so that I can stop quickly without hurting myself, and at a light because idiots don't pay attention and run into people. My bike is water-cooled but it'll still overheat especially in Texas heat

Living in London, I'm lucky if I ever manage to get my bike over 25mph! What with traffic, traffic lights, pedestrian crossing etc. However, that's why I know that you don't need to go fast when filtering. Firstly, because some pedestrians don't look when stepping off the kerb, 95% of the time because they are s engrossed in their mobile phones. Secondly, if traffic is not moving, or is constantly stop start, even going 15mph, I will still get to my destination a lot quicker than someone in a car.

Lane splitting IS illegal in Texas.  There was a proposed bill this past legislative session to make it legal but it didn't even make past the "filed" stage.

There's actually a bit of division between bikers and scooter riders in London. Scooter riders, for the most part, tend to be delivery drivers (pizza, takeaways etc). And they all tend to stick together. They will actually have conversations with each other at traffic lights. However, they will pretty much ignore bikers. Bikers will do the "nod of acknowledgement" thing. Not all the time in London, but definitely once you leave the city and go out into the countryside.

You're right; however, I've done it next to police officers and have asked them if I could due to the heating issue for any bike being stationary. They were all fine with it as long as I wasn't doing stupid stuff and one of them even escorted me.

The language was very much NSFW; it would have been nice to have a warning before I played that.

And if it's illegal where you are (like the video's narrator claims it is where he is), then filtering/lane-splitting simply shouldn't be done, because a) it's illegal, and because of that it's b) unexpected and therefore c) shocking/frightening/startling to the drivers of all those bigger, less-maneuverable, slower-to-stop, more-damage-resistant vehicles on the road.  If it's legal where you are, then all three of those points are moot.  If it's unexpected to the other drivers at that point, then it's on them, not you.  (For instance, if I were to drive my vehicle in California and be startled by a lane-splitting biker, that would be MY problem, not the biker's... unless I did something really stupid, and my startled reaction caused an accident or near-accident, in which case it would be OUR problem, caused by me.)

Having driven only vehicles with four or more wheels on highways, I also hate it when people do stupid stuff in cars!

People! Wake up!  You're traveling around a mile a minute in two-ton steel death-boxes, surrounded by more two-ton steel death-boxes, controlled (and I use that term somewhat loosely) by other human beings paying varying amounts of attention to the dangers of the highway.  For the sake of everyone involved, PLEASE follow the laws and the rules of the road; it makes your actions more predictable, and THAT makes everyone safer!

Note: I am not perfect myself, nor am I trying to say that I am; I am merely trying to encourage ALL drivers to be alert, be aware, and be courteous.

I have ridden a motorcycle for years, while I have lived in many of the US States, the laws different from state to state. Illinois for example has (last time I was there) No Helmet Law.  While it is not against the law to drive at 60+ mph without a helmet.. it is simply not a Wise Decision to not wear one.  Lane splitting is legal in the state I live in.  Very few time have I chosen to lane split, the reason is simple, there is no where to go if another driver moves or shifts in the lane. saving a few minutes is  simply not worth dying for.
