Seemingly cultures are very different. Then again, I wasn't a Marine, but as far as I know, none of our soldiers are encouraged to interact with civilians. Even so, I'm not sure I could have passed up the chance to show some teenage boys what women are capable of.
You probably would've dropped the gun and kicked their faces in And yeah, I would assume that the cultures would be very different in that manner, and even moreso because you weren't really military. One of the main goals of the Spetsnaz is intimidation, after all

LOL Jammo, that is HILARIOUS! You'd probably get a kick outta this, one of the guys that I've airsofted with a couple times is ex military. Marine, I think it was actually. The guy owns more airsoft guns than anybody. lol Anyways, everytime we went he would snipe the crap outta everyone. I remember this one time, the rest of us were doing a close quarters pistol round. Spring guns only, and he grabs this spring bolt sniper out of his pack and starts laying all of us out. It was funny as heck.... till I couldn't outrun him anymore. XP
And again, it is just so cool to see you guys talking about the differences and similarities between the armed forces of our two countries. That bit about training with real swords is CRAZY! I've never heard that Spetsnaz or anybody in modern era militaries did that. Sounds like something they should have used in that Deadliest Warrior episode with Spetsnaz. THAT woulda been interesting to watch.

Only some of us did the sword training, a small percentage of a small division. Targeted killers. As for the Deadliest Warrior, spetsnaz is, as the English Wikipedia says (I needed to find the way to phrase this properly) an umbrella term. Any special forces are spetsnaz, and we call special forces from other countries spetsnaz. Anyways, since it is such a broad term, the episode with KGB vs. CIA would be more accurate for my division, although we have all come a long way from the KGB days.

I haven't seen it myself, I just looked up Deadliest Warrior when you mentioned it and what we do is more like KGB than what they have the spetsnaz operatives doing.

We used to have airsoft wars at the barracks in Oki... had to be careful to pick up the BBs, lest the 1st Sergeant tosses all of our stuff looking for our toys. I kept my airsoft arsenal in the drop ceiling since I knew they were too lazy to look...

Nice. We never had too much trouble with our airsofting, but some Cop gave me a load for it once. Not that I'd be annoyed, except he was a punk about it and around here half the cops say it's fine, and the other half get all pissy. Actually got more crap about airsofting from my mom than anyone, but that's just cause she hates guns. AND cause we mighta broke a few lamps in the backyard once or twice. Not to mention that she probably wasn't to happy when we shot the doggy doo for kicks. Had this crazy idea her dogs were eating our ammo...

I don't really think that the police should worry about airsofting, as long as the orange tips are still there. And my parents never cared about stuff like that.... You want a machete for your 12th birthday? No problem

Jammo I hear you on that one, it's funny because I now work with a Jr. High group with my church. I nicknamed my small group Havoc Squad after The Old Republic trooper squad. They eat it up!
Stingere, I think that's one of the primary reason's Marines are such effective combatants. The brotherhood is just like nothing else I've ever seen.

I had no idea that cultures within armed forces could be so different. We are effective because of our lack of attachment to one another and our lack of emotion, which some would describe as 'cold-hearted.' That way we can remain calm when we must let one of our companions go to achieve our goal. We respect their sacrifice but continue without faltering. That is how we are trained and that is what we do.

Yeah the cultures are completely different, even between branches of service in the U.S. The Army is an entirely different story from the Marine Corps.
I got the pleasure of training with a few different military forces while I was in. I even got the pleasure of meeting some Delta Force operators... Want to talk about silent professionalism... those guys are so cool, and they almost share a brotherhood with everyone.

Delta Force.... JSOC, no? Who do you think would win if they fought the SOS (and let us hope that that never happens)? I have met SVR operatives before, and 'silent professionalism' is definitely how I would describe them, although several of them had come up through my division, so it wasn't out of the ordinary for me. Kushchyenko is the most well-known of their operatives, and I respect her as a covert intelligence agent, but not as a targeted killer. She could barely survive an attack by a baby seal.

Hate to say it, but I'd place my bet on the SOS. But.... Ewoks could beat either of them

I am biased because I know guys in Delta, but given what they go through, and the level to which they train to... Not to mention the fact that they are America's Tier 1 asset. My vote is for Delta Force, they're the guys you don't even hear about.
