Is this movie following one of the 'historical' Mulan stories?

Looks like they are since General Mulan did not have an officer that she was in love with or possibly in love with like the original film. I'm aware of General Mulan

It does seem like they took some elements from the Mulan Stories and removed some of the stuff from the Disney toon.  If done right a Disney Wuxia film could be amazing.

I'm feeling odd. Yet another Live Action remake, but I'm not getting my usual repulsion by it. This actually could be good. I am questioning why the bad guy went from Shan Yu to something-I-didn't-hear-too-well-but-know-it-wasn't-Shan Yu. Although I will miss Mushu, Ckricket, and "the cow", I will be very happy if this is closer to the original story.

Cast looks stellar, btw.

The lead antagonist is Bori Khan played by Jason Scott Lee and Xianniang, a witch played by Gong Li

Li I easily recognized. I always thought was.....uniquely crafted. Grin

I've got no complaints with Jason playing the baddie, I'd just like to know about the name change up.

Apparently it was just to distinguish it more from the animated film.
