Before I heard of saber combat, I was training in the staff. 6ft pole. Trained for 3 years. I found it easy to get into double blades.I know people say don’t go into double blades outright. However, I was not going to toss my ears of staff training aside. Any others out there like me ?

Started with staff fighting a long time ago and when I first ordered from US a few months back I instantly went for a doublebladed saber.
If that's what you mean.

But I do use the lightsabers at least as much as a single hilt as a double.

Definitely. It was just easier to get into. I have some straight sword training and the Chinese broadsword as its called. I’m surprised there’s a martial arts community here.

Jian and Dao? Love the dao, have a love-hate-relationship with the jian.
Currently working on my dadao and miaodao skills.

And yes, there are quite a few people around here with a martial background. Stick around long enough and you'll meet them.

I feel you. If my saber club didn't mandate us to start with single blade saber, I might have started off with staff or pike due to my past training in medieval polearm combat. Thankfully, I had a bit of prior experience with longswords, so at least I had that foot to stand on.
I should say though that saberstaff isn't an exact matchup of martial arts staff fighting, since you now have blades at the end and since the handle is a weakpoint (unless you or whatever saber club you are in treat it as immune to lightsaber strikes) and not a striking surface, so you're gonna have to modify your moves a bit. Also, it is technically a double edged sword, not a true staff.

There's nothing, no opponent I cannot beat (eventually).
light side, dark side, why not relish both?
I relish the fight, shall never back down, and will win no matter the cost.
In a battle, 1, 2, 3 opponents against me, their sabers against my own, that is my home.
I serve no master or side, for I am my own, but I will always fight the good fight.
I am a ronin, and this is my oath.

Dominix v4 stunt w/windows and A/V switch BR
Grab Bag Saber--Dark Apprentice v4 stunt GB

Mandate? Not a club for me then.
