Just make sure it's a data capable usb cable. There are versions that only allow power to be transferred.

Great tip!  I once wracked my brain out on a Launcher hook up, only to realize that the cable I had was only a charging cable, not a data cable.

Yup. Make sure it's a data cable and not a charging cable, the charge cables are typically thinner

Charging cables also only have 2 pins with wires connected while all the pins are connected for data.
