I still consider myself a novice, but I'm confident enough with a few spins to share my progress.

Oh, geez... I feel SO inadequate!  I need to start practicing.  There are lots of pointers and tips on here for finding good YouTube tutorials, and I need to get off my rusty-dusty and start watching them.

Nice work Galef, I’m still trying to get my left hand up to speed so I can start dual wielding. I start all my practice sessions now with a few minutes of basic spins with my left hand.   Hope to be two fisting it soon.

In my years as an instructor i have found that you should focus on your weaker side as it will develop slower then your strong side  i suggest 4 work out weak hand and one with strong hand and 1 using both hands dont worry about speed concentrate on clean techniques. the speed will come on its own

I agree. It took me quite some time to get the movement correct on my left hand. I kept hitting my leg on the back swing. It actually helped to just slow way down and build the "muscle memory" of the movement in that hand.
But once I got it down, the speed started coming very quickly.

Dont fight your saber make it a part of you, relax your grip you will tire out real fast trying to squash your saber. will you drop your saber...alot in the beginning. If your going to be dueling i suggest you pick up a wood dowel rods equal in length to your saber, cover it if pipe insulation  and use it for dueling practice , free spinning is very different the sparring, in spinning there is no impact or interruption of your flow . once you get more comfortable handling your saber in a static stance then add foot work to your drills

I’ve found that the best spinning I’ve seen almost looks like dancing, yet so natural with the footwork and body movement. I am surprised at how quickly muscle memory sets in with some techniques, but I do need to take my time and learn them correctly before trying to speed up.

Thanks for all of the tips
