I hate it when things aren't done properly. When I first disassembled my Catalyst, I was disappointed to see that the optics were hot-glued into the blade holder.  Poorly, and off-center.  I wanted to swap emitters, but this precluded any swap.  Having noticed in the description that this was made from TCCS parts, I went to work.  Here's what I found:

Underside of the blade holder with optics (original)

Heat sink & LED (original)

TCSS Flat Heatsink Module, lense and holder, with original LED mounted

Then I realized that the original blade holder would not fit around the TCSS LED module.  OOPS.  It seems Ultrasabers has a stock of old style parts which are incompatible with the new LED heatsink units.

Soo.... a current model TCSS blade holder!

Nice. A silver Catalyst pommel would look cool with the silver emitter, kinda mirroring each other, like what I like to do sometimes when allowed Tongue

Yeah, I'd like a silver pommel, but I want something narrow, like the original, but heavier.  I wish there were a more solid un-vented version.  I have a dark initiate solid pommel on there now, and it's heavier.

Got busy with a wire wheel.  That powdercoating is TOUGH.

Got busy with a wire wheel.  That powdercoating is TOUGH.

It’s not powder-coating; it’s anodizing.

“Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish. Aluminum is ideally suited to anodizing, although other nonferrous metals, such as magnesium and titanium, also can be anodized.

The anodic oxide structure originates from the aluminum substrate and is composed entirely of aluminum oxide. This aluminum oxide is not applied to the surface like paint or plating, but is fully integrated with the underlying aluminum substrate, so it cannot chip or peel. It has a highly ordered, porous structure that allows for secondary processes such as coloring and sealing.”

I know what they SAY it is, and my Fallen was anodized, but I've been working with metal for along time, and I have never seen anodizing as thick and heavy as what was on my Catalyst.  It smelled like powder coat when I put it to the wheel, too.
